The Wild West: Wright/Wood, Ducks Goalies, and More

Happy Monday y'all! I hope you had a happy and safe Halloween. Now we are onto the holiday season and moving into November, we are a full month+ into the schedule.

The second week in a row we were given a true NHL trade, this time between the Nashville Predators and the Seattle Kraken. The clubs swapped youngsters looking for a fresh start; the Kraken moving former fourth overall pick Shane Wright to the Preds in exchange for former 15th overall selection Matthew Wood.

Many (myself included) thought Wood would take a step forward in 2026-27 as he scored 17 goals as a rookie last year, but the winger has only put one puck in the net and tallied a total of three points in 14 games with Nashville. Wright has been on the trade block for a while now, officially requesting a trade this past summer. The center is now with an organization that needs depth and youth down the middle and both players will receive a fresh start.

From Brooks Bratten (@brooksbratten), Preds Content Manager, Nashville's GM Chris MacFarland says of Wright, "We feel he will bring a strong, two-way game to our team and will add to the pace of our lineup." The Predators currently have one of the league's best two-way centers in Ryan O'Reilly, so this is a great landing spot for the 22-year-old. For anyone in dynasty leagues, if you can acquire Wright on the cheap, he is definitely someone I am interested in. Given an opportunity to learn from some of the veterans in the Nashville organization should be beneficial for the young center, after a disastrous draft day and disappointing career in Seattle.

Going the other way, Wood is a big body who should fit with the scheme the Kraken play. I also feel like this is the end for Jared McCann in the Emerald City. The 30-year-old is currently hurt, but he is an unrestricted free agent and Seattle has quite a few wingers in their organization.

The race to 100 is still on as Connor McDavid is up to 39 points in 15 games. The record to beat is 34 games so McDavid has slowed down just slightly, but he could obviously pick it back up and write his name in history forever.

Moving down the leaderboard, McDavid's teammates are still two and three, with Leon Draisaitl at 28 points and Evan Bouchard at 26. The trio are finding great success under Mike Babcock and most importantly, the team has bought into the system and they are winning games. The next defenseman behind Bouchard is Quinn Hughes with 21 points on the season.

After a surprise season last year, the Anaheim Ducks are a shade of their former selves. There isn't a goalie controversy in Anaheim, but there is definitely some adversity in their goal crease. After blowing a 5-2 lead, with some bad goals against, last Tuesday to the Vancouver Canucks, Lukas Dostal has not seen game action since.

Ville Husso did not impress on Thursday against the Buffalo Sabres and we thought Laurent Brossoit was going to suffer the same fate against the Ottawa Senators yesterday as he gave up three goals in the first period. However, he shut the door for the final 40 minutes and the Ducks got just their second win in three weeks. Before the game, head coach Joel Quenneville said, "It's an opportunity." and Brossoit took it and ran with it.

The coaching staff is looking for someone to take the reigns so I believe Brossoit will get a couple more games under his belt within the next two weeks (Anaheim has two back-to-backs upcoming so I do expect Dostal to play some). After Sunday's game, Quenneville said they will take all three goalies on their upcoming three game road trip. I am inclined to pick Brossoit as the starter on Tuesday so if you need some goalie help, the former San Jose Shark should get you a couple of streamed starts this week.
