Florida gave Bryan Allen a five year deal for nearly three million per year. He's the one defensive, hard hitting rearguard on a team seemingly full of offensive ones. Still…that's a lot of coin.
The Boston Bruins have re-signed rearguard Andrew Alberts. He should be good for 140 PIMs this season.
After playing in the Czech League through the lockout, Vaclav Nedorost missed the entire 2005-06 season recovering from knee surgery. Last year he played for Ceske Budejovice HC. The former Panther and Avalanche forward just signed with HC Liberec of the Czech League and we can now see if he's lost a step. He's still young (25).
The Globe and Mail is reporting that if Jim Balsillie moves the Preds, he has agreed with Hamilton that the team will go there.
The Fourth Period is indicating that Matt Schnieder is talking with the Red Wings and it seems like he will likely re-sign there.
The leading candidates for Scott Hartnell are Pittsburgh, Montreal, Edmonton, Philadelphia and Atlanta. I'm still leaning towards Pittsburgh.
The Thrashers are trying to sign Marian Hossa long-term. He would become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Not of fantasy significance of course, but it is looking the Jackets will have Scott Howson, currently the assitant GM in Edmonton, as their new GM.
Alexei Yashin has expressed an interest in playing in Montreal. He is good friends with Kovalev and Markov. If that happens, they might even keep Samsonov and just have an 'all underachieving' line.
