Announcement in the forum – posted Sept.4.
Igor Grigorenko has finally made it to America and is skating with his future teammates. He'll make the team and should be good for 40 to 60 points as a rookie – yes, that kind of impact.
TSN is reporting that Fernando Pisani will be out of the Oilers lineup indefinitely with "ulcerative colitis". According to them, this inflammatory disorder of the large intestine is a condition marked by debilitating pain. Its unpredictability will mean that Pisani will be fine for long stretches but could be out at any time with a flare up. It's probably best if you stay away from this situation altogether.
Jay Bouwmeester pleaded guilty to a DUI charge. Since he didn't hit anyone and then take off (a la Mark Bell), he will not be suspended by the NHL and entered into 'stage two'…I think.
In a minor move, the Preds have signed Josh Langfeld to a contract.
Pat Leahy has signed to play in Europe this season.
Jamie McLennan has left Metallurg. No word on where he will be playing – or why he left.
The Fourth Period is reporting that the Blues have signed prospect David Perron, who has been playing quite well during Team Canada's domination over Russia. It will be interesting to see him in camp next year and try and become the third rookie to crack the lineup in 2008, since TJ Oshie and Patrik Berglund are both likely to make it at that time. A more likely scenario is 2009-10 for Perron.
SPECTOR is reporting on a rumor that Jeff Friesen is in talks with a team in Sweden.
