Vancouver, said to be in the market for a rearguard, have offered Dan McGillis a tryout.

James Sheppard will make his Wild debut tonight against Detroit. Pouliot will not play. 

Back on your radar: The Huge Speciman himself, Hugh Jessiman. He is in camp in the shape of his life and is impressing everyone with his play. Renney now has him on a line with Drury and Straka. Jessiman is ranked 221 on my fantasy prospects list, but has fallen every single month for over a year now (he at one time was in the Top 40). This news certainly rockets him into the Top 100. Keeper League owners take note.

Guy Carbonneau has stated that Yann Danis has been the best goaltender in camp. Huet, Halak and Price are not performing as well as Danis is. That pretty much ices it for Price – he'll likely be a last cut. There is still no way that Danis makes the team over Huet…but he could beat out Halak if Halak doesn't pull up his socks.

J-S Giguere will not be ready in time to open the season in England. He'll likely sit out for the first two games of the season.

Bryan Berard is still clicking alongside Bergeron on the Isles' top PP unit. I think he'll get a contract. 

The Caps are giving Tomas Fleischmann a serious tryout on the first line with Kozlov and Ovechkin. If he sticks, you obviously know the implications. 

The Edmonton Journal is now saying that Fernando Pisani may have to undergo surgery to combat his ulcerative colitis, which would make him out for the season. Stay away from Pisani at the draft. 

Gretzky loves how Mueller and Hanzal are performing so far. Hanzal scored last night in the game against Toronto. Mueller is lock to make the team, while Hanzal is on the bubble. Meanwhile, 30th overall pick from this past summer Nick Ross was cut. There are still 51 players in camp for the 'Yotes.

Jonathan Toews broke his finger last night. He will be on the shelf for about two to three weeks – expect the potential Calder Trophy winner to miss one to four games to begin the season. 

The Penguins Michel Therrien is saying that he would like to add a fifth forward to his list of penalty killers to ease the workload of Talbot, Armstrong, Staal and Malone. Up for consideration: Crosby, Malkin and Christensen. Poolies that have SH as a category take note. 

The Wild made the following cuts: Danny Irmen, Steve Kelly, Roman Voloshenko, Joel Ward, Moises Gutierrez, Morten Madsen, Ryan Hamilton, Ryan Graham and Cal Clutterbuck; defensemen Clayton Stoner, Jeff May, Frederic St. Denis, Paul Albers and Maxim Noreau; and goalie Barry Brust.

Jaroslav Hlinka, Paul Stastny and TJ Hensick have clicked on a line together. They combined for eight points last night.

Both Marek Svatos and Milan Hejduk suffered groin injuries last night. I will keep you posted on the injuries as I hear more.

Mike Ribeiro, who has been sitting out with an ankle injury, may actually miss the start of the regular season. The ankle injury is a little worse than originally thought and they figure that he needs about two weeks off the ice.

SPECTOR is reporting that the Sharks may actually be interested in acquiring Halak from the Habs. Griess' performance last night may quell those rumors though (see below). 

Fredrik Modin and Jiri Novotny were in practice yesterday. Novotny had visa problems while Modin had back spasms.

Jared Boll, a 21-year-old power forward who currently ranks 276 on my fantasy prospects list, is impressing in camp for Columbus. Ken Hitchcock is saying that he might actually make the team. If so, I wouldn't expect a huge impact offensively to start, but a slow progression similar to what you're seeing with Latendresse in Montreal. Either way, he certainly shoots up my list with this news.

Mike Keenan continues to stick Matt Lombardi on the top line in between Jarome Iginla and Alex Tanguay.

Ryan Shannon scored for the Canucks last night – further displaying his eagerness for a spot on the top two lines. He is an excellent – excellent – dark horse.

Some goalie notes: Tomas Griess picked up a shutout last night, inching ahead of Dimitri Patzold in the race for San Jose's backup goaltending job. Jonas Hiller allowed just one goal for Anaheim – that is his second straight solid performance. He looks like the real deal. Also, over in Tampa Bay, Marc Denis was pelted with 38 shots last night and he stopped 35 of them. Furthermore, he has been excellent in scrimmages so far – they say he has only allowed two goals in all their scrimmaging. Things look good for Denis owners.

Daniel Cleary (hamstring) was back in practice yesterday, while Valterri Filpulla (groin) is expected back today. The news is not all good in Detroit, however, as Brian Rafalski suffered a hip pointer yesterday. He is day to day.
