The Habs have cut Sergei Kostitsyn and Matt D'Agnosti. Both players had strong camps and will continue to ply their trade in Hamilton. Janne Lahti, Yan Danis, Corey Locke and Ben Maxwell were also cut,  Danis and Locke will need to clear waivers. Lahti was a bit of a surprise, but he had a weak camp and they can't just hand him the job.

Dan Boyle underwent surgery on his wrist (three tendons were severed in that freak accident yesterday) and will be out 4-6 weeks. Furthermore, since it is his wrist we are talking about, I would be concerned that his production will be very low for a good 2-3 weeks beyond that. You could be looking at a possible sub-40 point season from him now. 

The Leafs have cut five players, including Rob Earl, John Mitchell and Justin Pogge. 

Jose Theodore is back practicing and hopes to get into the lineup by the final two preseason games. 

The Red Wings, while very impressed with his puck skills, are very disappointed in Igor Grigorenko's skating and conditioning. This does not bode well for his chances of making the team. If he is not on the NHL roster in November, there is a clause in his contract that will allow him to go back to Russia. 

Columbus injury updates: Center/right winger Dan Fritsche (hip pointer) likely will resume skating today, defenseman Adam Foote (hamstring) and goaltender Fredrik Norrena (knee) will return Monday or Tuesday, and center Michael Peca (groin) and left winger Fredrik Modin (back spasms) will be back later in the week.

Matt Foy will need to clear waivers to get sent down, so he has all but made the Wild. That leaves one spot and currently Petr Kalus is the frontrunner for it. Pouliot and Sheppard both need strong games on Monday to get back into the mix. 

Benoit Pouliot skated on a line with Pierre-Marc Bouchard on Friday. Coach Jacques Lemaire was unimpressed with his performance. 

The Pens have cut their first-round pick from this past summer, Angelo Esposito.

In the Rangers game, Nigel Dawes was moved to the line with Jagr and Gomez, while Marcel Hossa was dropped to the third line. It didn't make a difference, as the team was hammered 5-0 by the Flyers.

Sean Bergenheim has been relegated to the fourth line for the Islanders. 

Enver Lisin was in the lineup for Phoenix last night. I hate American hockey coverage. How did it take me 10 days to find this out? Two papers in Phoenix never mentioned this for 10 days. Anyway, he was apparently not very impressive. So it's a moot point. Thanks to Ryanforcers for the information. 

Tampa's Dan Boyle will be out until at least November. A skate actually fell off the hook and cut a tendon in his wrist in what must be one of the weirdest accidents in the NHL in a good decade. Suddenly, you can reduce his expected games played to 70 games at the very best.

Vincent Lecavalier left last night's contest with an undisclosed upper body injury…more on that as I hear information, but this news has the potential to be quite huge. 

The Pittsburgh battle has become much more clear now – Ty Conklin has been cut. That means that Dany Sabourin is officially the backup (as I indicated in my fantasy guide). As well, Jeff Taffe and Tyler Kennedy have been cut. I would have thought that Tim Brent would be cut before Taffe, but anyway – Brent, Stone and Filewich will battle for one spot. I think that it will be between Filewich and Stone and Filewich will eventually win.

Chris Pronger is suffering from a partially seperated shoulder and is considered day-to-day.

Josh Hennessy has a separated shoulder and will be out of the lineup likely for the rest of training camp. As a result, suddenly Zubov and Nikulin have a real shot at making the lineup. One will, one won't.

I watched the Leafs-Bruins and the Rangers-Flyers. The difference between the two? Leafs played their farm team while the Rangers/Flyers played most of their A-guys. With the top guys sitting out, Simon Gamache and Anton Stralman were the best players on the ice. Jeff Carter, Shanahan and Ryan Callahan sat out in the other game…which the Rangers blew.

The best line for the Habs was the all-Belarussian line of Sergei and Andrei Kostitsyn along with Mikhail Grabovski.

Andrew Cogliano is improving with every game. The diminutive pivot scored a pair of goals last night. By the way, Ethan Moreau took a shot off the ankle in the second  period and hobbled off the ice. He did not return.
