Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Trib-Review is reporting that the Pens have made signing Hossa a top priority. A long-term contract, too. That would be huge for Hossa owners.
The Pens have elected to sign MA Fleury via salary arbitration, figuring they would like to see him do it over a full season before committing and not wanting to deal with potential offer sheets.
Rossi speculates that if Hossa signs, Jordan Staal may not be able to stick around after next season. Also, Brooks Orpik will take a discount to stay, and Ryan Malone may test the UFA market. Rossi speculates that some sucker would actually pay Ryan Malone $5 million per season. I guess they weren't paying attention to the results of other teams signing Jason Blake, or Anson Carter, etc etc. Malone is good because of his TEAM!
Leafs rearguard Jay Harrison has signed to play in the Swiss Elite League. Just an FYI for Leaf fans.
The Hurricanes have signed free agent enforcer Trevor Gillies. The 29-year-old has never played in the
NHL, but if the Canes need to inject some toughness he could sneak into a game or two this season. For the most part, he'll be in the AHL though.
Atlanta has asked for and received permission from TB to interview Mike Sullivan to be their next coach.
