Brett Sonne, who was a recent guest on Dobber Nation, has been named WHL's player of the year. Cody Hodgson was OHL's player of the year. Goalie Nicola Riopel was the QMJHL player of the year. Sonne is ranked 92, Hodgson is ranked 4 on my Prospects List. Riopel is undrafted.

Goaltender Brad Thiessen, a Hobey Baker nominee, has been practicing with the Penguins. He will battle John Curry for the backup role in the fall.

Interesting tidbit that I found in the Gazette – NBC is banning the Pens from showing the game on the big screen outside of their arena. How petty can a big company be and how does that possibly protect their interests? NBC=bunch of clowns.

Jeff Carter played with a separated right shoulder, which happened in Game 3.

Simon Gagne, Darroll Powe, Antero Nittymaki and Randy Jones all played through hip injuries, the seriousness of which has not been released.

Mikael Tellqvist is off to the KHL. He has signed with Ak Bars Kazan.

Bryan Smolinski has signed to play with the Milwaukee Admirals on a tryout contract. He will make his debut tonight in a playoff contest against Houston.

Mats Sundin played 16:34 in his return to the lineup. He had an assist, but was a minus-2. He was one of just two minus players on the team.

Patrick Kane scored two goals and was instrumental in Chicago's comeback, but he was also a minus-3 in the game. He was on the ice for two goals for (obviously) and four goals against, but one of those goals for was on the power play, thus the minus-3.

Columbus prospect Alex Picard underwent wrist surgery Wednesday. He will be sidelined for a couple of months. Jan Hejda also had wrist surgery and will be shelved for a couple of weeks longer.
