The Canes may have lost both Ruutu and Cole. Both players left the game last night – Ruutu in the first (leg) and Cole in the third (knee). Naturally, we'll get no clue as to the severity until after Carolina is eliminated. Or they win the Cup.
Sergei Gonchar played a team high 21:42 last night. The knee must be doing well enough.
Jim Balsillie and Gary Bettman will see how things proceed when bankruptcy court proceedings begin today. In a blow against Balsillie, the NFL, MLB and NBA all filed statements on behalf of the NHL in full support. The precedent, they say, will undermine their own sport regarding ownership transfer and relocation.
The Globe is reporting that both David Krejci and Phil Kessel were playing hurt and that both of them will undergo surgery this offseason and may not be ready in time for training camp. Krejci's injury is to the hip – and he'll be sidelined well into September. Kessel's surgery is for a torn rotator cuff and labrum, which will also him take him out of action through September. The start of the season is in jeopardy for each.
Andrew Ference will undergo groin surgery. He'll be fine for camp.
Chuck Kobasew played with two broken ribs in that second round.
Zdeno Chara played with groin, shoulder and knee injuries.
Other injuries for the Bruins according to the Globe: Recchi (kidney stone), Savard (knee) and Lucic (toe).
Daniel Briere will become the second Flyer (Gagne) to have laser eye surgery.
Jamie Benn – what can I say about the Dallas prospect? In his first game at the Memorial Cup, he had a goal and two assists. Yesterday? FOUR goals and an assist. I think this guy will play for Dallas and have an even stronger impact than James Neal did.
