Fantasy Guide, found here, will have it’s next update this afternoon. Draft List will also be updated.
Angus here again. Kessel is finally a Leaf. In return the Bruins are getting two 1st round picks (2010 and 2011), and a 2nd rounder. Kessel also signed a massive five-year, $27-million deal with Toronto. Solid deal for both sides. For all his faults, Kessel is a natural goal scorer, and you win games by scoring goals. There comes a point when you have to take a risk and trade futures for proven talent.
Love all the “insiders” that broke this deal. This deal was as easy as pie to predict.
Angus here. Sergei Shirokov is playing on the top line with Daniel and Henrik tonight against the Sharks! Talk about a big opportunity. Andrew Rayrcroft is expected to go the full distance and needs a great performance to earn the back up spot.
Marcus Schalle and Brent Lemon chimed in with thoughts on goalies they would avoid. It’s over at fantasypros911.
To me it’s Colin Wilson vs. Cal O’Reilly for the NO.3 center job and here is the comparison from last night:
O’Reilly: played 17:10, 1:35 on the PP, 0:32 PK, pointless and even. Played with Spaling/Hornqvist and Andreas Thuresson. Won 10 of 12 faceoffs.
Wilson: played 15:46, 1:44 on the PP, 2:36 PK, THREE points and plus-3. Played with – undetermined as of this time, Frozen Pool doesn’thave him in the database yet. Won 13 of 19 faceoffs.
The winner here is clear.
Ellis, Weber and Suter ran the power play, with Franson getting secondary time.
Ryan Stoa played on the fourth line (but still scored). The Avs went with Wolski on the top line as a winger. My belief is that they will use Stoa on the first line as a winger – he’d be a great fit. Wolski is too soft.
Nathan Gerbe played on a line with Philip Gogulla and Tim Kennedy last night. He did get an assist, but that line combination doesn’t exactly scream “you’re making the team”.
Both Koistinen and tryout Martin Skoula saw more PP time last night than Seidenberg in Florida. It’s early, but it is a small indicator that they perhaps prefer Koistinen in the role and it’s his to lose. Since he was pointless and a minus-1, he’s not off to a good start.
Shawn Matthias was a minus-2. That about seals it for him, I’m sure, barring a big bounceback next game he plays.
Montreal had Cammalleri lining up on the wing with Gomez at center and Andrei Kostitsyn on the other wing. That probably means that Gionta is stuck with Plekanec.
Nazem Kadri scored a goal in front of his junior fans in London. As great as he’s been, he’ll play another year in junior yet.
Dmitri Kugryshev was among the Washington camp cuts late yesterday. This was via Tarik El-Bashir on Twitter. Five others were cut.
Ben Eaves hurt his groin – and his chances to make the Preds – last night. He’ll be out for a few days, which is enough time to decide on going with one of the other young forwards going for that spot.
My Puck Daddy article yesterday.
Kyle Okposos was diagnosed with a mild concussion. It shouldn’t cut into his season, but is a setback for getting prepared for it. Hit is below.
HUGE hit by Phaneuf on Okposo, followed by fight last night:
