Small deals from Kevin Allen: Yan Stastny goes to Vancouver for Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Red Wings get Jordan Owens from NYR for Kris Newbury.

Hot rumor from Bob McKenzie – Porter and Mueller for Wolski. CONFIRMED. Analysis up.

Washington has traded a late pick for Carolina for Chris Clar- I mean Scott Walker (same thing!). I will have fantasy analysis up on this.

Edmonton has claimed Ryan Jones off of waivers – brilliant move and I will have a fantasy analysis up on this one.

Aaron Ward has been traded to Anaheim for Justin Pogge and a fourth round pick. Zero fantasy impact there.

The Leafs have brilliantly dumped Martin Skoula off on New Jersey for a fifth round pick. I won’t break down the fantasy impact of this one, mostly because I’m still sane, but I will say this – Jacques Lemaire really loved him in Minnesota. That’s Brian Burke taking advantage of another GM dealing from the heart – we all can relate to that in our fantasy leagues.

Derek Morris has been shipped to Phoenix. This frees up some cap space in Boston for a forward.

My predictions for today:
1. Chicago does nothing between the pipes.
2. Kaberle is indeed moved, but not until after 2:30
3. The biggest deal of the day will be at least a six-player swap involving Brad Boyes somehow.
4. Ray Whitney to LA
5. Vokoun stays.
6. Mueller gets moved
7. Wolski does not
Throwing darts with some of these, but let’s see how I do…

Among the recalls yesterday – Dan Sexton, Mikael Backlund, Michal Repik and Viktor Stalberg.

Brandon Yip will be out 4-6 weeks with a shoulder injury. On one hand, this is terrible for a player who is just finding his footing in the NHL. On the other hand, he can remain under the radar for our September drafts…A dark horse for 65 points next season. Bold, but please don’t make me explain the difference between “dark horse” and “likely” – it will be a long enough day as it is.

Montreal trades Matt D’Agostini to St. Louis for Aaron Pulashaj. Analysis coming…

Someone criticized (though drastically misinterpreted) my upsides on Twitter and I just want to clarify – a player will “likely” top out 20% less than the upside I give them. When I slap an upside on a player, it means that if he has amazing chemistry with an elite center and everything rolls for them, the highest possible number he will get is THIS. So when I say Luca Caputi: 72-point upside, I mean he will “likely” be a 57 or 58-point player in his best year…but could surpass that for as high as 70-75 in the perfect conditions. And I stand by that. Since DobberHockey is growing so quickly, I should probably reiterate this blurb more often than I do, as I am sure it sheds light on my thought process.

Some observations from the huge slate of games last night…

Fedotenko, fearful for his job, notched two points. I think he’s safe and is likely to play with Malkin and Ponikarovsky.

Jordan Leopold was in the lineup, but the power play remained Goligoski and Gonchar on the blue line.

Benoit Pouliot returned to the lineup for Montreal and scored, playing over 17 minutes. Andrei Kostitsyn also returned, but did not get on the board and he played 15 minutes. With those two back, Sergei K. was down to 14 minutes.

You may have noticed Tom Pyatt notching two assists for the Habs. That would be the exception and not the rule for him.

Carey Price allowed just one goal but faced only 24 shots. Still, Montreal has a fabulous 1-2 punch with a bright future between the pipes. Now they’ll let their golden boy ride that confidence on the bench while Halak takes over for a couple of games I’m sure. Price needs to be eased back in, not thrown into the fire.

With two more points last night, Joni Pitkanen has 18 points in his last 18 games.

Justin Peters was huge – 32 saves on 33 shots. I keep telling you – he’ll be the man down the stretch, not Legace. With Jokinen and Pitkanen rolling, they’re winning games now.

With just 14 minutes of ice time, Blake Comeau notched a hat trick. Give the guy SEVEN points in his last three contests. He is on fire, folks, making sure he doesn’t get scratched again.

It was the chink in the armor that we thought could come. Whether it was his fault or not – I didn’t see the game – Brian Elliott got pulled after giving up four goals on 16 shots. Now Leclaire has a window of opportunity to steal his job back.

I joked about Grant Clitsome (tee hee) yesterday, but the guy notched two assists, was plus-1 and had two penalty minutes last night.

I think we may see Gilbert Brule go on a bit of a run. He had two points last night. I get the feeling that, after his hot streak in the first month or so, he began to tire. Now he’s had two weeks of rest again. Just a hunch.

Denis Grebeshkov in his first game for the Preds played against his old team and tallied two points.

The much-hyped line of Sullivan, Dumont and Arnott were not even the top line for NSH. The three averaged about 13 minutes of ice time. Meanwhile, the Goc line averaged 15 and the Legwand line 15, the O’Reilly line 14. I’m seriously looking at the stats and if anything they were the fourth line. Trotz loves to roll all of his lines, clearly.
