I have details on the playoff pool results/prizes, the Fantasy Prospects Report Mock Draft and a new contest – all below.
I don’t think it was mentioned here, but Ville Leino’s 21 points tied Dino Ciccarelli for the most points in the postseason by a rookie. Chickaroni – what I fondly call him – had 14 goals and seven assists, while Leino had the reverse.
Leino had 11 points in 55 regular season games. So who will show up next year? Is he reliant on Daniel Briere for his points? How much so? You could draft him and wind up with 20 points next year. Or maybe 70. In one of my keeper leagues, a guy is actively shopping him. In another, a guy is holding onto him for dear life. A case could be made for either strategy.
Before the postseason started, I made it clear that I felt David Bolland, Dustin Byfuglien, Johan Franzen and Jonathan Toews were playoff studs – or they would have that reputation very soon. You can add Joe Pavelski, Claude Giroux and Mike Cammalleri to the list for next year.
Marian Hossa apparently played the Stanley Cup Final with a sprained right MCL. This is the third straight season that Hossa has been injured, so the smart money is on him playing fewer than 75 games next year. If he can ever stay healthy I think he’ll get back to his 100-point ways. But that’s looking like a big IF.
Jonathan Filewich has signed to play in the KHL next season. He was a bust of a prospect anyway.
Puck Daddy’s Chesnokov is reporting that Peter Forsberg is considering an offer from the Flyers to join them next season. Here we ago again with the speculation on this that will no doubt last all summer. It will end in one of two ways – either nothing comes of it, or he will join the team and spend 76 of the 82 games on the IR. Either way, hundreds of fantasy hockey suckers will pick him up.
The Edmonton Journal is suggesting that Patrick O’Sullivan and Robert Nilsson are being heavily shopped.
The 2010 DobberHockey Playoff Pool results are not yet “official” on PickupHockey, but the Top 3 teams all have such wide gaps between other teams – and each other – that it’s pretty safe to call them official. The winner of the SI7 Stealth Easton hockey stick is 87flyer. His top 15 were – other than Joe Pavelski and Patrick Marleau – all Chicago and Philadelphia players. HolyGoalie is winner of a jersey from Cool Hockey. His 395.5 points were six behind first and six ahead of third (see what I mean by a “wide gap”?). Ogborne22 finished third and he will receive a complimentary DobberHockey Ultimate Fantasy Pack – which includes the Fantasy Prospects Report, the Fantasy Guide, the Midseason Fantasy Guide and the Interactive Playoff Draft List. Congrats you three (expect an email from me soon)! Thank you everyone for participating. And you all suck for being so terrible at this playoff pool and not winning it. Myself, I don’t suck because I meant to choose mostly Blackhawks and Flyers, but my mouse slipped and clicked the wrong guy…31 times. I didn’t notice my 31 mistakes until after the deadline had passed and it was too late.
I have Matthew Bugg’s Final Mock Draft in my hands. I will review and edit and hopefully I can have this finalized Fantasy Prospects Report out to you this afternoon. I apologize for the version yesterday. Bugg tends to switch players around on his mock draft over and over, and this time it resulted in a key player not being pasted back in. When it’s a mock draft, you can’t just “insert” a player after the fact. You have to re-write and change the entire draft after that player is put back in. No easy task. Brain fart is fixed, and this should be in your hands later today.
From now until June 24th, Angus will be running a 2010 NHL Entry Draft contest. Send him an email of your first round mock. The entry that closest mirrors the first round on June 25th will win an autographed Shane Doan 8×10 photograph. The rules are simple – one through 30, send me your picks. If you guess the correct player, earn one point. If you guess the correct player and the correct position, you will be awarded three points. For example, of your top five is Hall-Seguin-Fowler-Tarasenko-Gunbranson, and the NHL's top five picks are Hall-Seguin-Fowler-Gunbranson-Tarasenko, you will be given 11 points (three for Hall, Seguin, and Fowler in the correct position, and one for each of Tarasenko and Gunbranson for having them in the first round).
