Both the Fantasy Guide and Draft List were updated as of last night.

Chris Botta reports that Kyle Okposo will require shoulder surgery and is out for two months – or about 30 games. This could have been a big year for him. The door opens wide for Niederreiter, Comeau and Parenteau – but put me down for Comeau getting that spot with Tavares and Moulson.

Some big cuts in Nashville: Ryan Ellis, Nick Spaling, Linus Klasen and Matt Halischuk.

The Isles made a solid signing to cover them off on defense after the Streit injury – Mike Mottau.

New Jersey cut 11, including: David McIntyre, Tyler Eckford, Alexander Vasyunov and….VLADIMIR ZHARKOV? Wow – this is Adam Mair and Marcus Nilson possibly stealing his spot. This also speaks volumes of Mattias Tedenby. There are still 32 in camp – or 30 when you cut the obvious goalies…and 25 when you cut the obvious defensemen. So two more will go between Mair, Nilson, Nick Palmeiri, Tedenby and Josefson.

The above being said, beatwriter Rick Chere has indicated that Zharkov could be back up in time for opening night. So don’t panic if you own him (too much).

Chet Pickard was among the cuts for the Preds today.

Michael Leighton will not require surgery on his back, but he will be out for about a month. The team intends to roll with Boucher, Bobrovsky and Backlund – the Killer B’s!

Also – Ian Laperriere is sidelined with post-concussion symptoms.

The Leafs had a couple of lines rolling last night – Kessel, Bozak and Versteeg combined to score twice, and Grabovski, Kulemin and MacArthur matched the feat. On most teams this would be a very talented third line. On the Leafs they make up a below average second line. Though, if Kulemin picks up where he left off in the spring, he could make for an interesting dark horse. I picked him up Friday in the Forecaster League as my second bench winger – my second last pick. I think he’s a great guy to come off the bench.

Tyler Ennis didn’t play, but his buddy Nathan Gerbe did – and Gerbe scored twice, including a penalty shot. I think he’s got an NHL job. Somehow, the Sabres are going forward with Gerbe, Ennis and Roy on the team. Incredibly high in talent. Incredibly low in size.

Carey Price finally had a good game, albeit against Florida. But the fans were nice enough to chant his name – so they can be positive as well as negative. Good to see.

It was only two power plays, but Nashville’s Cal O’Reilly got the PP time and Colin Wilson did not. It’s only preseason, but I wonder if that is where Trotz is leaning? Wilson is obviously a much more well-rounded player, whereas O’Reilly’s specialty is creating offense.

Sergei Kostitsyn finally getting on the board with a goal should help the ol’ confidence. He needs a boost like that. His fantasy stock has bottomed out.

Notable CUTS – I update throughout the day and you can see yesterday’s cuts in yesterday’s ramblings by clicking ‘next’ below.
Brophey, Taffe, Huet – CHI
Hartikainen – EDM
Dadonov, Repik, Thomas – FLA
Desharnais – MTL
Geoffrion – NSH
Zalewski, Stalock, Sateri – SJ
Rai, Schroeder – VAN

Schroeder was the biggest eye opener for me…

Philly GM Paul Holmgren tells Philly.com that Michael Leighton could be back as early as Thursday. The buzz on Twitter is that he is putting a positive spin on things because the team will be in trouble without him, and that he’ll probably miss a month. My take – shut up, Twitter. The Flyers are not in trouble. They’ll win 12 of their first 20 games with Leighton in net, or they’ll win 12 of their first 20 games with Boucher in net, or they’ll win 12 of their first 20 with Bobrovsky in net, or they’ll win 12 of their first 20 games with Angus in net, or they’ll win 12 of their first 20 games with Shoeless in net, etc, etc.

Although, if it was Toskala in net, then they would only win 11.

Ville Leino (hip) is cleared for contact and will play preseason games this week.

It is starting to look as though Luca Sbisa has a spot sewn up in Anaheim. Tony Lydman’s injury creates another hole and Cam Fowler is in the mix for that one.

Michael Russo is reporting that the Wild have an interest in Jose Theodore. Myself, I would go for Greiss in San Jose. He’s cheap, and he’s better. Better than Theodore? Yes. Theodore is terrible. Something happened in Montreal and he was never consistently good since. That was hidden in Washington behind the best offense in the NHL.

Kari Lehtonen tweaked his groin. I hate to tell Dallas management that I told you so, but…

The Gazette is saying that the Pens are extremely happy with their ACT line, billed as the most annoying line in the NHL – Cooke, Talbot and Asham.
