Jeff Angus

2010-10-30

Angus here – Jeff Carter listened to me! Two goals tonight. Also, Kimmo Timonen has a goal and a helper. Buy low window just about closed…

Dobber here- today’s THN column – does Stamkos make the Big 4 in fantasy hockey? And what’s happening to Vinny?

Also some news from Twitter: Bryan Little is out with a concussion and facial contusions. Also, Linus Klasen was recalled by the Preds, it will be interesting to see how he fits in. Finally, Milan Michalek is out with a knee injury – at least a week.

Great news on the Kris Versteeg front – he is playing tonight.

Stephen Weiss (who was a minus-4 last night) is out for tonight’s game after injuring his ankle during a game of soccer this morning.

No word on Malkin for tonight’s game yet.

Markov is back tonight, and he is going to be playing with PK Subban.

Forgettable night for Marty Turco, just after he strung together a few solid starts. He allowed four goals on only 12 shots against the Oilers before getting the hook.

Edmonton rookie update:

Eberle: one goal, one helper, just under 20 minutes of ice time (including 0:57 on the PP)

Hall: one goal, one helper, 17 minutes of ice time (including 0:51 on the PP)

Paajarvi: two assists, 16 minutes of ice time (nothing on the PP)

Duncan Keith has five assists in his last two games.

After a slow start (which should have been expected), Ales Hemsky has four points in three contests for the Oilers.

Marc Savard is inching closer to a return. He skated on his own Friday morning before Bruins practice. Pete Chiarelli, get your calculator out.

Calgary extended Mark Giordano for five years yesterday. The cap hit of his new deal – roughly $4 million per. The money is fair for a defenseman who has emerged as arguably Calgary's best. The term is a bit long, but management must be confident Giordano has more room to grow both offensively and defensively.

I tweeted this yesterday and got a lot of feedback – is there a more disappointing star player so far this season than Jeff Carter? His production is half-decent, but he has looked pretty bad in the Flyers games that I have managed to catch.

Great time to buy low on Kimmo Timonen.

Kris Letang is on pace for 20 goals and 82 points. I wonder what odds you would get if you bet the over?

Expect to hear this a lot: Henrik Lundqvist had a great game yesterday, but the Rangers still lost. He allowed four goals on 38 shots.

Grachev was pointless in 6:55 of ice time.

Ryan Callahan is leading the Rangers offensively with their injury issues, as I wrote two days ago. He had a goal, an assist, and seven shots on net last night.

📢 advertisement:

Patrick O'Sullivan played 5:11 and was pointless. His window of opportunity is almost completely shut…

Derek Stepan played less than eight minutes and is pointless in four games.

Jamie McBain is off to a slow start, but he did manage to record his third assist of the season last night. Expect his production to pick up dramatically as he continues to adjust to the NHL game.

Tomas Plekanec has been worth every penny of his $5 million contract so far this season for Montreal.

Gionta/Gomez have combined to score two goals in 10 games for Montreal. $12.5 million sure doesn't buy what it used to!

Dustin Byfuglien has been a revelation for the Thrashers this season. I feel like I am talking about him every single night. His line from last night – one goal, one assist, over 25 minutes of ice time.

Burmistrov scored his first career goal for the Thrashers. He will be sticking in the NHL all season. I wouldn't expect anything more than 12-15 goals and 30-35 points, but he has a lot of upside in keeper leagues.

Derek Roy is off to a great start for the Sabres. He has the talent to be a 90-point player, but consistency has always been the issue. Six goals and 13 points in 11 games.

Claude Giroux made some rotisserie-playing poolies very happy last night. Two goals, one short handed and one with the man advantage.

Marc-Andre Fleury is 1-5. Brent Johnson is 4-0-1.

Nik Zherdev has a healthy scratch for the Flyers. The more things change…

Cody Hodgson owners, fear not! Hodgson scored the GWG and was named 1st star in Manitoba's 6-3 win last night. It appears his slow start is a thing of the past.

Rick DiPietro is starting for the Islanders tonight.

The Flyers have apparently cut ties with prospect Pat Maroon. No reason as to why – he was sent home by the Phantoms yesterday before their game.

Jeff Skinner scored a beauty of a goal against Henrik Lundqvist last night. He now has seven points in nine games.

Ray Emery skated this past week for the first time since undergoing hip surgery a few months ago. He is still hoping to make an NHL comeback.

More on the Dan Hamhuis injury situation from Jason Botchford – here.

Beauty goal from Niagara forward Ryan Strome:

Deryk Engelland, he of knocking out Colton Orr fame, completely destroyed Jody Shelley in a scrap last night. Here is the evidence:
