Dobber Sports

2010-12-21

Curious if the same group of dissenters here on DobberHockey and on Twitter are laughing at me quite as much when I say this again: “I would rather own Malkin over Stamkos in a keeper league – it’s not even close”.

The rest did Geno a world of good – eight points in three games since his return to the lineup. When healthy and in the mood – nobody is better. Nobody.

After one point in eight games, Tobias Enstrom has five in his last two. He’s a streaky player, so look for big numbers for another week or two.

Anthony Stewart. Does anyone confuse me more? When is he going to get hurt and/or start sucking?

He’s played six games this season and he has six points – yeah, Evgeny Dadonov of the Florida Panthers has caught our attention. The 21-year-old has second-line upside and is giving us a preview of why. His ice time still hovers around 12 minutes, so I don’t expect it to last, but if he can stick around all season he is one to watch for next  year. As for the short term – why not? Grab him and see what he does over the next week.

Justin Peters – oops. He’d like to take a Mulligan.

Mike Smith is sidelined for the next two weeks with an LBI. Injuries again. He isn’t the same goalie that he was when Dallas had him and early on in his TB tenure. And injuries are the main reason – as well as the psychological impact of subconsciously favoring the body parts that have been injured recently. All that plays a role in his suckiness.

Tim Thomas – awesome goalie, but he is coming down to Earth. Finally. Two wins in his last six starts. If Rask can win the next one, there is hope for his owners (for this year) yet…

Sergei Bobrovsky got the hook last night after giving up four goals on 22 shots. Correct me if I’m wrong, but if he can still be sent to the AHL without clearing waivers than why not do that for a couple of weeks and see how Leighton and Boucher do? Not that Bob deserves it after one bad game, but it would probably help this three-goalie situation.

Ryan Malone did not play in the third period because of a UBI. “Precautionary” they say, according to Erik Erlendsson.

Mike Comrie has been held out with a hip injury, according to the Post-Gazette, and it is possible that he will undergo surgery. He has missed 11 games so far.

Oscar Moller has been sent back down to the AHL. This past stint was an impressive one, but with Marco Sturm coming back the team had to make a move.

Interesting new lines for the Devils, according to nj.com: Tim Sestito will center Kovalchuk and Tedenby. Don’t pick him up, of course, until you see how he does for a game. By “him” I mean Sestito…

The Devils have recalled Matthew Corrente.

Cam Barker, big disappointment in Minny, was a healthy scratch in favor of rookie Marco Scandella. Scanny (I’m on a nickname basis with all these guys) notched an assist in the game, and probably earned an extended look. If they don’t send him back down he may be worth a pickup for next week if you need an offensive d-man – and we all do.

Eric Fehr will miss the next contest according to the Post, because of a death in the family. Alex Semin is doubtful.

Mathieu Perreault will remain with the club until the roster freeze lifts on December 27.

Brad Richardson or Marco Sturm will probably play on the wing with Kopitar and Brown next game.

Patric Hornqvist should return to the lineup tomorrow. Pekka Rinne is also a possible start. Whereas David Legwand is “questionable” according to the Tennessean.

A 45 save shutout for Jonas Hiller – another solid one earned. These alst nine games he has been awesome – pushing his GAA from 2.88 to 2.57, and his SP from 0.914 to 0.923. I’d be kicking myself if I traded him at the start of December (just a little shot at a GM in my league – haha)
