I have updated some rumors and analysis in my Central and Atlantic Division deadline articles, if you wanted to give them another look-see. Later today I will have the Northeast Division.

I don’t believe Jason Williams will be a big fantasy contributer for the Stars. I do, however, believe that his first two or three games will be good ones if you want to go ahead and pick him up for a week. As with Mark Parrish of two years ago, Williams is hungry and should make a splash. But his skill set and his spot/value in the lineup will catch up with him.

Zach Boychuk and Brett Sutter were sent down and the Canes recalled Jerome Samson and Zac Dalpe.

Some massive games for several players over the past week – from Nathan Horton and Milan Lucic going completely nuts in what were two of the best fantasy performances of the season, to the Islanders/Penguins PIM-filled (and goal-filled) contest Friday. If you happened to own any of Lucic, Horton, Seidenberg, Krejci, Tavares or any of the Islander goons, you made huge strides in your roto league. I have Tavares in the Expert’s League and it’s helped me get a little firmer hold onto seventh spot (for those new readers, I’ve been having fun just struggling to climb out of 12th spot since November – possibly the biggest challenge I’ve had in fantasy hockey, so I’m really loving it).

So Peter Forsberg, who I emphatically warned you off off for the past month, is pointless and minus-4 in two games this season. I grant you that it’s early, but he only has 12 out of 20 healthy games in him… and he’s already burned two of them.

Here we go again with this guy. Andrei Kostitsyn is pointless and minus-6 in his last six games. The Habs need to stop pushing their prized 10th overall draft pick (in 2003) and start pushing their undrafted, underrated gem David Desharnais. Desharnais has six points in his last three games and is plus-3 in that span. Reward the producers and punish the slouches – forget the pedigree.

In case you missed my note yesterday, on page 40 in this week’s Hockey News, our writer Matt Bugg has an interesting article on a star player from the 40’s who fell into a gambling addiction and things spiralled downward from there.

Yeah…you know I wasn’t gonna keep my mouth shut about this guy: Brett Sterling. This is why I don’t give up on my players quickly, and shoulder the ridicule of you, my peers. All he needed was a situation where the team had no choice but to play the hell out of him. And the Penguins with six injuries and a pair of suspensions…well, they need him. He has two points in two games. It’s unfortunate that even if he gets six points in five games before players start coming back, he’ll be pushed back to the minors and I can go back to being teased. It’s a damn shame that Pascal Dupuis gets game after game on the first line, missing nets and hitting posts, while the sniper Sterling continues to light up the AHL.

With big trade days both Wednesday and Thursday, I wonder if we’ll see more deals over the next two weeks, but fewer deals on actual Deadline Day.

As expected (by me), MIke Fisher lined up on the top line with Martin Erat and Sergei Kostitsyn. The trio combined for five points. Short term, this line is gonna be dynamite.

The Penguins are 0-3-1 in their last four. So suddenly (finally) they are no longer without their stars. That could put the pressure on for a trade.

Dustin Jeffrey will miss at least the next week with a leg injury. Terrible timing, as this was his chance to really show his stuff.

Michael Leighton’s AHL numbers: 4-7-1 (on a terrible team), 2.25 and 0.923.

Nikita Filatov, who has missed nearly a month with a sore neck, is back in the lineup for Syracuse. He has just 10 points in 16 AHL games as the search for his swagger continues.

Patrick O’Sullivan has 14 points in 11 games for Houston of the AHL. He turned 26 last week.

How does Marc Savard get injured…and Tyler Seguin still gets scratched?

I’m starting to doubt my bold statement that Al Montoya would start the bulk of the games for the Isles and get 11 wins. Hey, I’m only right 52% of the time! It looks as though Koskinen will keep getting chances. His game has settled down.

Anze Kopitar’s goal last night was his second in 21 games. It was his first two-point game since January 6 and he had five points in 13 games prior to his two-point game last night.
