Some rumors making the rounds that Tomas Vokoun has expressed interest in playing for the Avalanche. They are one of the few teams that have a legitimate need for him and that could pony up the cash to pay him what he wants.

Congrats to Team WC17 for winning the DobberHockey Playoff Pool!

Love this gem from Elliotte Friedman’s latest column:

“Don’t know a ton about potential Dallas coach Glen Gulutzan. Another AHL bench boss texted me a quick scouting report: “Great guy. Quiet and a hard worker…Smart team play. Organized.” What also can’t hurt is he had Jamie Benn playing like a beast in the playoffs last year.”

As you all know, I am a huge Jamie Benn fan. I think he has a good (60-70 percent) chance at scoring 35-40 goals next season. His production depends on where he lines up (I think Dallas likes him more at center for the same reasons Philadelphia likes Giroux more at center – they get more of the puck). With no Richards, Benn would probably line up with Eriksson on a scoring line.

Thinking out loud – does a Jeff Carter/Luongo swap make sense? Fills a need on each team. Gives Luongo a fresh start in a market that needs a starting goalie. Frees up Cory Schneider to prove he is as good as many think. Gives the Canucks a legitimate scoring winger and someone to play with Kesler. Similar cap hits and contract lengths.

I went into a bit of an anti-Luongo tirade on twitter after game seven. I was a bit emotional, obviously, but I feel the same now as I did then. He isn’t the player to win in this market. Too moody, to mercurial, whatever it is, I’m not really sure. I am aware that he had almost no goal support against Boston, but this marks the fourth straight year that he comes up short when it matters the most.

Even if this trade is just a pipe dream, Vancouver’s number one need is a winger for Kesler. The helicoptor line (no wings, get it) he was on all season broke down when he did. Samuelsson and Raymond are solid players but neither are good enough to stick with Kesler.

How about Michael Grabner?

I am surprised that MacT has yet to land a job – fantastic coach who gets his players to play hard for him. Minnesota opted to go with Mike Yeo (coached in Houston this year), another NHL rookie head coach. Yeo won a Cup with the Penguins in 2009, along with current Minnesota GM Chuck Fletcher. Obviously a connection there.
