Patrick Kane just proved me wrong (well, close enough). I thought he could never be a 100-point player, but he has 100 points in his last 83 games (heading into last night’s game). We’ll give him that extra game, that’s good enough for me.

*

Yesterday, my column in The Hockey News looked at the players to keep an eye on at the World Junior Championship. Part 2 will be out Thursday.

*

Tomas Jurco scored his first career NHL goal for the Wings last night, but his ice time slipped to 12:54. Gustav Nyquist is day-to-day with a groin injury, so Jurco likely has until Gus gets back to show what he can do. Jurco should dominate the AHL for another season and a half before becoming a full-timer in 2015-16.

Jonas Gustavsson got the hook after giving up three goals on 11 shots. He’s now 0-3-1 in his last four. So last week when I suggested grabbing Mrazek and stashing him on your bench in case it pays off – well it just might pay off. Although…my reasons for doing that, I admit, were because of Gustavsson’s Band-Aid Boyness and not his suckiness.

*

Jakob Silfverberg finally made his return to the Anaheim lineup. Definitely worth activating and as you saw, he scored a goal. He played 12:48 so Bruce Boudreau is easing him back in. A little troubling is the fact that he barely saw any power-play time. Easing him in or not, you’d think he’d get the easy PP time. Especially over Matt Beleskey. But not the case. Here were the Anaheim line combos with Silfverberg back:

He did not get his old line back, as Boudreau stuck with Beleskey, who has four points in six games. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time – one or two more games.

Ryan Getzlaf left the game after this hit by Kyle Quincey, who got a game misconduct. Getzlaf got stitched up and returned to the game. How? I don’t know. Because this hit is nuts. Like a car crash:

*

Don’t look now but Andrew Cogliano is on fire. Three points last night, seven in his last five games and 10 in his last 10.

*

Mark Scheifele continues to produce. Nothing massive yet, but the dribs and drabs (did I just say that?) are adding up. Points in nine of his last 12 games.

I suspect that Evander Kane is ready to take off. He’s on a mission since returning from injury. Six shots on goal in each of the two games.

*

The last time the Sabres scored four goals in a game, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford earlier that day admitted that he smoked crack.

*

Toronto rookie Peter Holland has six points in his last six games and is playing very well. He’s really impressing me. This goal by Mason Raymond is ALL Holland, watch this:

I was starting to give up on him as a potential second-line center, but it’s starting to look like he really has that potential. With the right linemates it could happen. I know he’s there now, but that’s because of injuries. I’m talking about with everyone healthy he’s still the second-line guy. More likely three years from now.

*

Jakub Voracek is back. It just took a third linemate (with him and Giroux) to get it done. I thought that linemate would be Matt Read, or maybe Scott Hartnell but nope. Michael Raffl. Give Voracek seven points in his last five games.

Remember the Quincey hit? You just saw it like five blurbs ago, wake up. Anyway, this one tops it. Tom Wilson absolutely charged Brayden Schenn here and HHHHAMMMERED him into the boards. This one goes way too far:

*

The Islanders are 3-15-4 in their last 22. Seriously, the coach has to go. I mean, I hate pushing for another person to lose his job. I think I’m a little more “human” that way, compared to most sports fans. But the Islanders should be climbing not dropping. And by all means – move Capuano to the minors to coach there or give him a scouting job. As long it’s not coach of the Islanders!

*

Jonathan Quick was back on the ice doing light workouts, but nothing serious as of yet. My expectation is still to see him after Christmas but before the New Year.

*

Jared Boll has a torn ankle tendon and will be out until April.

If he’s still available, Matt Calvert makes for a good pickup in leagues that count PIM. He has 19 in just 15 games and that’s not really out of whack for him. He’s also a decent points guy, on pace for 34 in 63 contests.

*

The Flames signed Morgan Klimchuk to an ELC. Klimchuk was the 28th overall pick last summer and is ranked 105 on my Fantasy Prospects list, but hasn’t had the greatest season. He won’t be playing for Team Canada next week and his production for Regina (WHL) hasn’t improved over last year. You can read more on Klimchuk here.

*

After just two points in seven games, Max Pacioretty picked up three on Tuesday. If he’s back in the zone, you know what that means – so is David Desharnais. Six shots on goal for Max-Pac as well.

*

Phoenix rookie defenseman Connor Murphy has points in each of his last three games, giving him four in 10 altogether. He also has been playing at least 21 minutes in each of his last five games, including 24:32 last night. For a coach to give a young rookie defenseman that kind of minutes is very rare. But to do that when you already have Yandle and Ekman-Larsson? That’s truly remarkable. Granted, Zbynek Michalek left the game after one shift…but he didn’t leave all five of those games after one shift. Murphy’s earning this. From a fantasy standpoint, it’s tough to say pick him up because of Yandle, OEL and Stone all with offensive upside. But right now, he’s getting it done. I really like him in keeper leagues and that’s not something I would have said last summer. Murphy is ranked 71 on my Fantasy Prospects List, but he’ll move into the Top 40 for sure next month. Read more on Murphy here.

And while you’re reading Murphy, don’t forget to read up on Brendan Ross’s Ramblings over there. A ton of information.

As for Brandon Gormley, another highly-touted potential stud in the Phoenix system, he has just 13 points in 23 games and is minus-7 for Portland.

*

David Booth has quietly put up points in each of his last three games, as well as 10 shots in that span. As long as he keeps shooting the puck, he should make himself worthwhile owning in roto leagues.

Mike Santorelli – quite the signing for Vancouver. In his last 10 games he has three goals, eight assists, 11 points, plus-10 with 25 shots. I say ride the wave for another two or three weeks and then ‘sell high’. I can’t see him topping 50 points. He might. He has that upside. But I just don’t see it happening this season. He’s already halfway there after 36 games so he has 46 more games to prove me wrong.

*

Mike Cammalleri missed last night’s contest with the flu.

Nikita Kucherov, future superstar, with the shootout move:
