What to make of Blake Comeau’s recent surge.
Having maxed out with 24 goals on the season at the apex of his Major Junior career, Blake Comeau is not a natural goal scorer. This is a player who accumulated a whopping 16 goals since the conclusion of the 2010-11 campaign, despite averaging 70 games played per season over that span. (Note: The 2012-13 lockout-truncated campaign GP figure was pro-rated to 82.)
Sure, Comeau notched an impressive hat-trick against Toronto Wednesday night (including the OT winner). Sure he's notched five goals over his past six contests alongside either Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin. However, the fact remains, we're talking about a player who only scored five goals altogether last season, despite budding star, Ryan Johansen among his second-most frequent line mates last season!

While I'm not necessarily ready to claim Comeau as the latest in a long line of mediocre forwards to thrive on the wing of a superstar play-making center, all signs point to that being exactly the case.
