Sam Bennett set for lengthy career and fantasy success.
As I've stated before, I like to 'poll' social media as to which prospects readers want to learn more about. Recently, I was approached to do a piece on certain prospects with high-end potential who would contribute as soon as next season. I've talked about Sam Reinhart (and Max for that matter) in the past, so I found it only fitting to move to the next Sam of the 2014 NHL Draft: Sam Bennett. In this edition of The Journey, I'll highlight his career and fantasy projections moving forward.
SAM BENNETT– Calgary Flames
Ontario native Sam Bennett was destined for hockey greatness from a young age. At 15 years of age, he played AAA hockey for the Toronto Marlboros. He skated in 37 games and recorded 33 goals, 36 assists and 69 points to really solidify his place as a rising star. He was equally impressive in the OHL Cup where he recorded 11 points in seven games while helping the Marlboros claim the silver medal.
As expected, Bennett was taken in the first round of the OHL Priority Draft by Kingston with the ninth overall selection. In his first season with Kingston, as a 16-year-old, he recorded 18 goals, 22 assists and 40 points in 60 games while also contributing three assists in four playoff games as the Frontenacs were swept by the Barrie Colts. He skated with Canada's U-18 team at the WJC and contributed seven points in seven games while claiming gold.
