Fantasy Impact: Alec Martinez to the Golden Knights

Wednesday afternoon saw the trading bonanza continue as the Vegas Golden Knights procured the services of veteran defender, Alec Martinez from the LA Kings in exchange for 2020 and 2021 second-round selections.
The Golden Knights get: A former offensive defender to play on the left-side who brings all sorts of experience. Martinez is a two-time Stanley Cup winner who knows the division intimately. It should be a straight plug and play situation. Martinez was never one to put up gaudy point totals but has always been able to transition the puck well from his own end.
Historically, the 32-year-old hasn’t been a drag defensively. However, in recent seasons that has slowly faded. Still, he chewed up over 40 percent of the shorthanded ice for the Kings this season and he’ll likely see time on the PK unit for Vegas.
He’ll provide a few hits, a few blocks and little else for the fantasy landscape.
The Kings get: More draft picks and a better chance of losing games down the stretch to help their lottery chances.
Fantasy Players Impacted: Not a whole lot will change from this deal. Perhaps we see a guy like Jon Merrill bumped out of the bottom pairing on the left side. Perhaps we see his tenuous spot on the second PP in jeopardy now as well. In LA, the void will be filled collectively with no clear youngster tagged to eat up the minutes.
