Fantasy Take: Dzingel Back to Ottawa for Galchenyuk, Paquette

The Ottawa Senators have acquired forward Ryan Dzingel from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forwards Cedric Paquette and Alex Galchenyuk.

Dzingel will be on his second tour of duty with the Senators, having started his career with Ottawa in 2015-16 and being traded to Columbus near the 2019 trade deadline. Meanwhile, Galchenyuk will be playing for his sixth team in the past four seasons (Montreal, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Ottawa, and now Carolina). Paquette was in his first season with the Senators after winning a Stanley Cup with the Lightning last season.

This trade shouldn't make any huge fantasy ripples, as none of the parties involved are more than 1% owned in Yahoo fantasy leagues. That being said, there's always a chance that one of the players involved can generate interest in fantasy leagues with some short-term success.

Galchenyuk's most frequent linemate in Ottawa was Derek Stepan, who is rumored to have requested a trade to be closer to his family in the US. A two-time 50+ point scorer with Montreal, 2012 third overall pick Galchenyuk hasn't been able to make it work with numerous teams over the past couple seasons, and that was also the case in Ottawa (1 G, 0 A, in 8 GP). It's possible he finds better linemates in Carolina, but he's not someone you should immediately grab from the waiver wire because of this trade. After all, he has been a healthy scratch for the Senators at times this season.

The Senators are already destined to be competing for the first overall pick, so it wouldn't be a shocker if they flipped Dzingel before the deadline. He is on a one-year contract worth $3.375 million. Whatever happens, he should probably slot in as a middle-six forward and could take on the minutes vacated by Stepan should he leave. Again, he's not a player you need to rush out and grab unless he can repeat some of the success he had in Ottawa earlier in his career. But at that time, he was lining up with the likes of Matt Duchene and Mark Stone. The rebuilding Senators simply don't have that kind of firepower at the moment.

Also keep in mind that because this is a cross-border trade, all players involved will need to quarantine for the necessary periods before they can join their new teams.
