Daily Fantasy Saturday: Stars at Home

By the time you are reading this, there's a fairly good chance another handful of players will have been added to the Covid list and maybe even another game or two postponed. It has been a week unlike any other in terms of that, with groups of players being added daily and some players even being added after taking part in warm ups and even during games.

I can't imagine what some of your season long teams look like right now, but at least with daily fantasy we are largely unaffected by all this madness in terms of rostering a full team. The post-lock late scratches, like Cale Makar on Thursday, are all we really have to worry about. That assumes of course you've double checked your lineups right before puck drop. My Twitter list found at the end of this column is a good source for any late-breaking news and I highly suggest following it if you have any daily lineups going.

Also, be sure to take a peek at our DraftKings DFS Player Evaluator over in the Frozen Tools to get another opinion on some plays for tonight's slate.

As of this writing, there have been three postponements on the slate for Saturday, which leaves us with a relatively light six game one for tonight. However, regardless of the number of games there's an equal amount of money to be won, so let's get to it. Here are some spots I'll be looking at for tonight's slate. All prices are from DraftKings but plays can be applied to any site.

Primary Stacks

Los Angeles – Carolina has been one of the hardest hit teams by Covid over the past few days. They were impressively able to come away with a win on Thursday despite playing only 10 forwards for the game, but that will be tough to sustain going forward. Even if they add some call ups to the roster, you're still looking at a pretty barren bottom six for the Canes. The Kings, as of this writing, have fared pretty well with the Covid situation thus far and are mainly intact outside of Drew Doughty. The top six for LA is also priced very affordably making stacking them with another top line pretty easy. Look at both the Anze Kopitar ($6,400), Adrian Kempe ($3,600), Dustin Brown ($3,100) line as well as the Phillip Danault ($3,500) – Viktor Arvidsson ($5,600) – Alex Iafallo ($3,800) line. Sean Durzi ($2,900) is worth an add to both stacks, filling in for Doughty on the power play.

DallasRoope Hintz's ($7,000) home/road splits this season are truly something bizarre. Away from American Airlines Center, Hintz has only mustered one goal in 13 games, but on home ice that number skyrockets up to 10 goals in 12 games. In fact, he and his linemates of Jason Robertson ($5,900) and Joe Pavelski ($5,100) have accounted for 20 goals at home this year, quite an impressive number. Luckily for us, that's where the Stars are tonight and they face a team in the Blackhawks which certainly isn't a matchup that we fear. You can also add John Klingberg ($4,400) to the stack as one of the cheaper PP1 on the slate.

Edmonton – Finally putting an end to their six-game losing streak on Thursday, the Oilers will look to start a streak in the other direction tonight. This could be a developing situation, however, with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins being added to the Covid list on Friday, after playing Thursday. Obviously if one or both of Connor McDavid ($9,700) or Leon Draisaitl ($9,000) were to miss, the Oilers become much less attractive for daily fantasy purposes. As it stands though with them two still expected to play, stacking them with Jesse Puljujarvi ($4,400) looks to be the best way to capture most of their scoring upside. But it won't come cheap, the price tags on McDavid and Draisaitl are sky high however we know the ceiling on these guys and if they have one of their signature games, you're going to wish you had a piece.

Secondary Stacks

Ottawa – The Senators have been a pretty fun to watch of late, mostly in part to their top line. Brady Tkachuk ($6,500), Drake Batherson ($5,700), and Josh Norris ($5,800) have accounted for 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists) over the teams last six games. Tkachuk himself has scored seven times while averaging over four shots per game and the matchup with the Flyers is a good one having allowed an average of over four goals per game across their past ten. The line is fully correlated on the power play as well, which is always good to see when stacking.

Detroit – The Devils are struggling mightily at the moment and enter Saturday's contest having lost eight of nine. Over the last four they've allowed 18 goals and they've been particularly bad on the road where their 4.0 goals allowed per game mark is the third worst in the league. The Red Wings haven't been lighting things up offensively either but recently saw Tyler Bertuzzi ($6,100) return which could be what they need to get rolling again. The line of him, Dylan Larkin ($6,500), and Lucas Raymond ($4,900) has been their best all season and is where I'd look here.

Value Stacks

Here a few affordable stacks you can use to round out your lineups:

Sean Couturier ($6,300), Travis Konecny ($4,700), Keith Yandle ($3,500)

J.T. Miller ($5,600), Brock Boeser ($4,600), Tanner Pearson ($3,300)

Jared McCann ($4,400), Jordan Eberle ($5,300), Jaden Schwartz ($4,800)
