DFS Thursday: Lightning Strike

The final Thursday of the regular season is upon us and it presents one of the last opportunities of the year for a slate with more than five games. Using Dobber Hockey's new DFS subscription service (link below) and this article, let's try to piece together a lineup that ends the season on a high note.

Top-Tier Stack to Target

Tampa Bay – Few teams are hotter as the playoffs approach than the two-time defending champs, who have won six of seven with an average of a whopping 5.7 goals during that span. Steven Stamkos ($7,600) has been centering Nikita Kucherov ($7,800) of late and would be where I'd look for stacks with someone like Ondrej Palat ($3,400) who can provide some salary relief.

Also consider Boston. With questionable motivations for many of the top teams on the slate, I think we'll see all the regulars for the Bruins in action as they're still alive to climb out of a wild card position. Patrice Bergeron ($6,400), Brad Marchand ($7,400), and Charlie McAvoy ($5,800) are where I'd start and I'd add in David Pastrnak ($7,300) or Jake DeBrusk ($5,000) pending if you want to pay up or down at the fourth spot.

Mid-Tier Stack to Target

Vancouver – The Kings are locked into their playoff spot, so they really have no motivation to win this game other than pride. They rested some players last night and with this being a back-to-back I'd expect some more "load management" tonight. On home ice I'm looking at Elias Pettersson ($5,700), Brock Boeser ($4,300), and JT Miller ($7,000) all from the Canucks top power play, to have a solid showing.

Also consider Ottawa. The Panthers have the top seed in the East clinched and also may choose to rest a few guys in this one. Spencer Knight is in net and allowed five goals on Sunday in his most recent start. If that form, which he showed much of early in the season, carries over the Senators can certainly take advantage. It should be business as usual for Josh Norris ($5,900), Brady Tkachuk ($6,000), and Drake Batherson ($5,000) as Ottawa has been out of playoff contention for some time already.

Value Stack to Target

Washington – The Capitals are battling with the Penguins for an opportunity to avoid the Panthers in the first round and could use a win here against the Islanders. Alexander Ovechkin ($8,300) missed the last game but is traveling with the team. If he were to miss it could be a boost in opportunity for the likes of Nicklas Backstrom ($3,000), T.J. Oshie ($3,400), and Justin Schultz ($2,800). Schultz in particular saw top power-play time last game and is near minimum priced. If Ovechkin plays, I'd obviously try to work him in at the expense of Schultz, which is possible considering the near basement level price tags on the rest of the team.

C – Jean-Gabriel Pageau ($2,800), Pavel Zacha ($2,900), Backstrom ($3,000)

W – Alex Chiasson ($2,500), Noah Gregor ($2,500), Gustav Nyquist ($3,100)

D – Schultz (pending Ovechkin, $2,800), Alex Goligoski ($3,300), Damon Severson ($4,000)

Goalie Picks

When in doubt, include your goalie with one of the team stacks within your lineup in the hopes of picking up the win if your stack performs well. Otherwise, consider:

Linus Ullmark ($8,300) – For reasons listed above I think Boston will have full effort here. Ullmark has allowed two goals or fewer in five of his last six starts.

Spencer Martin ($7,600) – With the Canucks eliminated it could be another look at Martin here who's been rock solid every chance he's gotten this season to the tune of a .953 save percentage.

Be sure to double check your lineups before lock for any last-minute scratches or goalie changes.
