Player props: Guentzel scoring at a torrid pace

There's nothing like an elimination game in the Stanley Cup playoffs and Friday will offer three contests where teams will have to win or go home. That also means the spotlight will be on a number of players to deliver clutch performances to keep their seasons alive, or advance to the next round.

Here are a few player props to consider while you enjoy the action:

Odds from DraftKings as of Friday morning

Jake Guentzel anytime scorer (+115)

At some point Guentzel's hot streak is going to come to an end, but he's playing too well right now to not take a chance on a him to score Friday with those odds. The Pens forward has scored in every game of the series against the Rangers, which includes a pair of multi-goal games and seven total goals. Now if Sidney Crosby isn't able to play then that's going to hurt Guentzel, but he's shooting at such a high rate right now that he'll still have a good shot to find the back of the net even without Crosby. Guentzel is averaging six shots per game in the series and at that kind of volume he'll have a decent chance to continue his scoring prowess.

Johnny Gaudreau over 0.5 assists (+100)

Despite the Stars/Flames series being very low scoring, it really hasn't impacted Gaudreau's production. Gaudreau has points in four of the five games so far and an assist in three straight contests. There's also signs that the ice is really starting to tilt in Calgary's favor, as the Flames have outshot the Stars 84-56 in their past two victories. Gaudreau's 90 even strength points this season were tops in the NHL by a fairly significant margin and he's continuing to prove that it's very hard to slow him down, even in a tight series like this one.

Carter Verhaeghe over 0.5 points (-125)

Verhaeghe has a whopping 10 points so far in five games against the Capitals in this series, but he's really turned it up in the past two contests. After his five-point night to give the Panthers a 3-2 series lead, Verhaeghe has now factored in on Florida's past six goals overall and has seven of his 10 points in the series in his past two games. Not only that, but he's coming of eight shots in his past two as well. The Panthers were the highest scoring team in the regular season and that appears to be starting to translate to postseason play, and Verhaeghe is taking advantage.

John Carlson over 2.5 shots (+105)

Carlson started off slow in the shots department in the playoffs, but he's picked it up over the last two games. With three and four shots respectively over his past two contests, Carlson is starting to shoot at the level that he did to close out the regular season. The Capitals defenseman went over 2.5 shots in six of his final seven games prior to the postseason and was actually over 3.5 shots in two of those. With the Caps playing at home and fighting to stay alive, Carlson should hopefully have a strong showing and hit the over again.
