DFS Thursday: Rebound With the Panthers

Just a two-game slate for Thursday, which will be the norm for the most part this round. We got a glimpse of these teams on Tuesday so we can reference that in helping build our lineups for tonight.

If you want to give the Dobber Hockey DFS tools a shot, you can here:

Stacking can be essential to success on these tiny slates. If you think about a night with final scores of say 4-0 and 2-1, it almost a guarantee a stack of the team who scored the four goals will be what wins. And if your lineup is just two guys from Team A, two from Team B, etc. you're likely to be too spread out to beat the lineups that have four or five skaters from the four goal team.

Now if the final scores on the night are 6-4 and 5-3, well then you might be okay being spread out and not concentrated on one team. Unfortunately, we're not going to know how the night plays out until the games are over obviously. But reverse engineering your lineup by building based on the outcome you expect is something you should think about.

Team to Stack:

Florida – They let everyone down Tuesday but we need to have a short memory with this format. The loss of Brayden Point has to negatively affect the Lightning at some point and the Panthers have bounced back well from losses in the previous round. Carter Verhaege ($4,000) has been the best offensive player for the Panthers in the playoffs thus far and comes with a cheap price tag. You can stack him with Aleksander Barkov ($7,400) and Claude Giroux ($4,800) in the hopes the trio can combine for nine points again like they did in Game 5 against Washington. For a Panthers onslaught consider adding on Jonathan Huberdeau ($6,200) and Aaron Ekblad ($5,500) as well.

Other Targets:

On the high end, no surprise here but Nathan MacKinnon ($9,000) is the best play on the board. Tough price tag to get to though so consider Nazem Kadri ($6,000) for a discount if you still want access to Colorado.

In the mid-tier, you have pretty much the entire Blues team. David Perron ($5,100) has been the highest volume shooter, and safest option for fantasy thus far in the playoffs.

📢 advertisement:

At the bottom of the price range there are some solid values. These include Corey Perry ($2,600) who has taken Point's spot on the power play and capitalized with a goal on Tuesday. Josh Manson ($2,500) saw 20 minutes of ice time last game, taking four shots and scoring the game winning goal. He is the site minimum price.

Goalie Picks:

When in doubt, include your goalie with one of the team stacks within your lineup in the hopes of picking up the win if your stack performs well. Otherwise, consider:

Sergei Bobrovsky ($8,300) – Assuming the Panthers cut down on their penalties and don't allow the Lightning six power plays again, Bobrovsky should see a nice rebound in the goals allowed department in this one.

Be sure to double check your lineups before lock for any last-minute scratches or goalie changes. We can’t seem to do DFS on Draft Kings now. We used to pick daily pools of 9 players for 50K in salary. Is there anywhere we can go (Canadian) for a similar service for this and perhaps recommended by yourself?

Hi Keith. Personally, I am based out of the U.S. but from what I have read if you reside in Ontario you are no longer able to play DFS because of the online sportsbooks. So that may be your problem. I hope they get that sorted out soon or at least in time for next season. Not being located in Canada myself I don’t have any other recommendations for sites to play but if any of the other writers do I’ll have them pass along.

Thanks Stephen. You are right… I’m in Ontario and DK just quit that business for us. Some of the lads are hoping something is in place for theNFL season.
