Important Note (for those who just stumbled onto this page and are joining us for the first time): This is a FANTASY ranking. It was actual talent level, then I would just have Askarov, Wolf and Wallstedt in the top three and be done with it. But in fantasy there are many other factors to consider, such as wait time (important). Most goalies are 25 or even 26 before they put up fantasy-worthy full-season stats. The only goalies to do it at 23 in the last 20 years are Carey Price and Andrei Vasilevskiy. So ‘at best’ you are looking at 23 for the very elite.
Goalies within +/-5.0 ratings of each other should be considered equal value and become a matter of team need or personal bias.

It would be really nice to see the ages of these goalies on this list as, as Dobber has said, age is so important where it comes to prospect goaltenders.
Wait … what? I have Wallstedt and I thought “that’s it, I have the next Vasilevskiy” but now you’re saying I don’t even have the best young Minny goalie? :(
You have the next Vas. The wait time is just several more years. The MIN goalie ahead of him will make you wait 0 years. Wait time is important too.
Devon Levi is at least 20 spots too low. No way Portillo/Leinonen are ahead of him either
Here we go again! He’s 20. When do you think he’ll play 40 NHL games?
I’ll answer my own question. The average goalie is 25 or 26, which means a 5-6 year wait. A great goalie is 24 and Price/Vasilevskiy were 23. Is he going to be Price or Vas? Let’s assume no. So a four-year wait time, and goalies aren’t guaranteed to begin with…
Furthermore, in the introduction, I state: “Goalies within +/-5.0 ratings of each other should be considered equal value and become a matter of team need or personal bias.” That means, he could be as high as 26 here, which is indeed ahead of Portillo/Leinonen.
Actually – just read the intro. I don’t write it because i love typing, I actually say things ;)
