DFS Tuesday: Lightning Striking the Red Wings; Carolina Visits Struggling Anaheim

Brad Hayward

Last night I went to bed before the west coast game but had a DFS play (mostly) matching my deepest fantasy league – four Canadiens (Suzuki drafted, and FA's Sean Monahan, Mike Matheson, and Kaiden Guhle) and two Canucks (Elias Pettersson and Andrei Kuzmenko, both drafted). Hmm, four goals, six assists, but only plus-2 combined, which cost me a bigger payday…. hoping I can repeat here.

The Colorado Avalanche (yeah, I also had Nathan MacKinnon) have become a tough team to play in fantasy betting – while Artturi Lehkonen should be back, and Valeri Nichushkin is reportedly close, now we worry that MacKinnon may miss time, adding to their long injury list. I feel the Avs are similar to the Lightning, in that they're GOING TO make the playoffs, and team health will only matter in April and May. JT Compher has become a good free agent pickup, if still available for you.

Looking at games for tonight, there are several stacks to look at. (DraftKings values for those I'm not playing listed – those on my roster are in the last paragraph.) The Islanders host a St. Louis team in free-fall, and on the Blues' back half of B2B. Mathew Barzal ($5500), Anders Lee ($6000), Brock Nelson, and Ilya Sorokin should rack up fantasy points. Carolina plays at the struggling Anaheim Ducks, another on-paper mismatch, featuring Sebastian Aho, Martin Necas ($6700), and Brent Burns. Injury-ridden Columbus visits Pittsburgh, where both Sidney Crosby ($7000) and Evgeni Malkin ($5900) missed practice with non-Covid illnesses Monday, opening space for less expensive options like Brock McGinn or Kasperi Kapanen ($2900). Jeff Petry ($5100)? Or go to the other late game, where Montreal versus the Kraken… well, I'd just play the "over" there.

My personal line tonight may not reflect all those "better" options, but here goes: Steven Stamkos ($7500), Brayden Point ($6100), and Erik Cernak ($2900) vs. Detroit, Aho ($6500), Teuvo Teravainen ($3600) and Burns ($6300) vs.Anaheim, McGinn ($2700) from the Pens, plus Nelson ($6300) and Sorokin ($8000). On house money, for once.
