DFS Saturday: Sabre Stack

Boring week of fantasy here as we didn't have a single player score five goals in one game or put up 70 DraftKings points, can you believe it? Oh well, maybe next week. As we returned to more normal scoring, the NHL has returned to their more normal schedule as well. That's left us with our usual hefty Saturday slate and tonight's features ten games. That means 20 teams and goalies in action along with 60 defensive pairs, and 80 lines. All said and done we have about 380 players we can choose from to build our lineups tonight and we have to narrow that down to the best nine. That can be overwhelming so if you want some more help outside of this article, give our tools at DFS Central a look. Some of the spots I'll be targeting can be found below. The player prices are from DraftKings, but the information and concepts can be applied to any site.

Top-Tier Stack to Pay Up For

If we want someone that can put up 70 DraftKings points in a game, I know a guy. Tage Thompson ($8,600) continues to be on a tear and has three goals and two assists in the last two games. In what should help the offense, Jeff Skinner ($6,400) is set to return from a three-game suspension tonight as well and will likely retake his spot next to Thompson on the top line and power play. Alex Tuch ($6,600) is the third member on that line and Dylan Cozens ($6,000) is also a worth option as he's had three points or a goal in seven of his last nine games. Any combination of the three to go with Thompson as well as Rasmus Dahlin ($7,200) make for fine pieces in a Buffalo stack. A matchup against the Coyotes is good enough in its own right but the Sabres also get the benefit of catching them on a back-to-back.

Mid-Tier Stack to Target

The Rangers have seemingly overcome their early season struggles and enter tonight's matchup on a five-game winning streak, the most recent of which have come against the Avalanche, Devils, and Maple Leafs. Not too shabby. Their opponent tonight, the Flyers, aren't quite at the level of those other teams so it sets up for a spot New York should find some success. Their lines have deviated from what we've seen for most of the season as Chris Kreider ($6,000) finds himself with Vincent Trocheck ($5,100), whereas his usual linemate Mika Zibanejad ($7,300) is now with Artemi Panarin ($5,600). Any combination of the three makes for a fine stack as they all share the ice together on the power play.

Cheap Stack to Build Around

The Vegas Golden Knights are missing a few of their top defenseman in Alex Pietrangelo and Shea Theodore, which has opened the door for a larger role for some of their other blue liners. One of those is Daniil Miromanov ($3,700) who's taken over the honors on the top power play and has delivered with two assists there in the last two games. He's also added a goal and another assist at even strength. At his current price tag with this role, he's one of the best values on the slate. Chandler Stephenson ($5,000) is doing his best at filling in for the injured Jack Eichel and has racked up a goal and six assists over the last five games. Mark Stone ($5,200) is the preferred option for rounding out this stack and has scored three goals in the last three games. The matchup isn't ideal here, but the price tags are low, and we do catch the Islanders on a road back-to-back.

Goalies

When Igor Shesterkin ($8,200) is on his game it's tough to make an argument for anyone else as the league's top goaltender and that's the type of form Shesterkin has been showing of late. In his last four starts Shesterkin is 4-0 and has stopped 114 of 120 shots, good for a .950 save percentage. Despite this, he's still not priced as a top three goalie on the slate. Couple all this with his unimposing matchup against the Flyers and he's my clear choice in goal for tonight.
