DFS Saturday: Grab Both Goalies

With Game 6 and 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals set for next Friday and Monday respectively, today's DFS Saturday article will serve as my last of the season. It's been another fun year here at Dobber Hockey and I hope I've been able to provide some sort of valuable information to you readers throughout the season. Now let's try and end the year on a high note!

As has been the case for the past few weeks, we are limited to a one-game contest for daily fantasy. As always, it's important to check the contest rules on the specific fantasy site you play on, as they vary slightly. I will be focusing on DraftKings and if you want a quick rundown of how one-game contest scoring works there and some strategy when building lineups, please read one of my previous articles here.

As I've continued to say regarding one game contests, you want to build your lineup around a specific outcome on how you think the game will unfold. If Florida's overtime winner on Thursday has you thinking they've got their mojo back and are going to even the series tonight, I'd suggest building a lineup around Sergei Bobrovsky and some Panther skaters like Matthew Tkachuk. If you are expecting Game 4 to look more like Games 1 and 2, you would obviously want to be heavy on Golden Knights like Jonathan Marchessault who's scored four times this series already.

Captain Considerations

I'm going to be building my lineup with the anticipation of a similar looking game to that of Game 3, that being a low scoring one. Therefore, I'm looking at one of the goalies as my captain, so either Bobrovsky ($16,200) or Adin Hill ($15,900). Whichever goaltender I don't play as captain, I am still going to roster in a flex spot. Having both goalies in low-scoring games, particularly ones that go to overtime(s) can almost guarantee a finish in the top half of the field for tournaments.

Flex Considerations

As stated above, one of Bobrovsky ($10,800) or Hill ($10,600) will take up one of my flex spots. Rostering both goalies soaks up a lot of salary so we need some value now. I'll start with Alec Martinez ($5,800) who is always in play for the bonus points given for accumulating three or more blocked shots. Martinez has hit that bonus in three of the last five games. Add in a few shots and you're looking at double-digit fantasy points with the upside for more if he can land on the score sheet. Speaking of blocks, Brayden McNabb had seven last game which gives him 12 in the series thus far. For just $4,600 he makes for a good value play for the same reasoning as Martinez.

With Hill, Bobrovsky, Martinez, and McNabb locked in, we have two spots remaining and around $13,000 in salary to work with. I'm going to fill these two spots with someone who has a better chance to score the puck since thus far we only have goalies and defenseman in our lineup. William Karlsson ($6,600) has yet to score in these finals but has ten goals in the postseason. Chandler Stephenson ($6,200) is another scoring option as his eight goals is tied for the third most on the team. Then on the Florida side, Anthony Duclair ($5,400) has scored twice in the last four games and fits the salary range we are looking at.
