The Hurricanes get: one of the better puck-moving defensemen in the entire league. But also one of the bigger distractions in (and out of) the dressing room. DeAngelo has been very low-key since being pretty much chased out of New York, however, his coach in Philadelphia (John Tortorella) wasn't a fan. The Flyers bought him out, even though he posted a solid 42 points in 70 games.

One year after leaving Carolina via free agency, DeAngelo returns. The last time he was there, he posted an impressive 51 points in 64 contests. In his last three seasons that he has played, excluding the season in which the Rangers sat him for its entirety, he has earned at least 19 PPPts in each of them.

Fantasy Players Impacted: It's good for DeAngelo owners that he goes back to a known franchise with the same coach and likely defense partner. He stands a good chance of producing similar numbers. The big difference this time is the presence of Brent Burns, who will of course eat into DeAngelo's PP time. Then again – DeAngelo will eat into Burns' as well.

This signing benefits Jaccob Slavin, who thrived at even strength alongside DeAngelo in 2021-22, notching a career-best 42 points. But it hurts the prospects of Brady Skjei matching the great season he enjoyed last year. Skjei was just starting to get PP time, but that will be gone now – Burns and DeAngelo will pretty much gobble all of that up.

And…what are the odds that Dmitry Orlov sees 1:29 PPTOI per game like he saw last season? Slim. With two proven 50-point defenseman on the team, how can Orlov possibly get a piece of that?

Fantasy Players this helps, in order:

  1. Slavin
  2. DeAngelo

Fantasy Players this hurts, in order:

  1. Burns
  2. Skjei
  3. Orlov
