While chemistry can be fleeting in the NHL – particularly early in the season – several Eastern Conference lines have found their rhythm in the early going. From a young core maturing quickly in Montreal to a retooled group of veterans paving their way in Pittsburgh, these line combos are shaping both the early-season success of their respective teams and the fantasy landscape at large.

Without further ado, here are a few dynamic lines in the East worth monitoring closely as the season moves along.

Juraj Slafkovsky – Nick Suzuki – Cole Caufield (Montreal Canadiens)

It's taken some time, but the Montreal Canadiens have finally found the right mix of talent to anchor its lineup. Juraj Slafkovsky's confidence is climbing by the game, using his puck-protection abilities to extend plays and create space; Nick Suzuki continues to be the line's steady two-way anchor; and Cole Caufield's lethal shot makes him dangerous from all areas of the ice. In just over 120 minutes of ice time at even strength, the Habs' top line has generated an impressive 6.5 xGoals For, most in the Eastern Conference and second-most in the NHL. With youthful exuberance and a perfect blend of power and finesse, the Habs' top line will continue electrifying Bell Centre crowds for years to come.

Nikolaj Ehlers – Sebastian Aho – Seth Jarvis (Carolina Hurricanes)

With star winger Nik Ehlers donning the red, black, and white, the Carolina Hurricanes now boast a top line comprised of three of the league's brightest stars. Sebastian Aho has been his usual point-producing self; Ehlers' straight-line speed pushes defences back; and Seth Jarvis continues to prove he's a bona fide top-line finisher. Together, the trio has generated 5.6 xGoals For, fourth most in the league. With all three players locked into long-term deals through 2030-2031 or later, this line looks built for the long haul.

Anthony Mantha – Evgeni Malkin – Justin Brazeau (Pittsburgh Penguins)

Few expected to see Anthony Mantha and Justin Brazeau playing – let alone thriving – alongside Evgeni Malkin in 2025-2026, but Pittsburgh's patchwork has delivered surprising results in the early going. Evgeni Malkin looks rejuvenated, moving with purpose and creating space for his linemates; Anthony Mantha looks engaged and poised to recapture his 20+ goal form; and Justin Brazeau's monster frame and underrated goalscoring have made this group much more than just a stopgap. Collectively, Pittsburgh's second line has generated 5.5 xGoals For, trailing only the two above-mentioned lines for most in the East. It may not last all season, but for now, this monster trio is scaring goaltenders across the league.

Josh Doan – Ryan McLeod – Alex Tuch (Buffalo Sabres)

Buffalo's forward mix has been relatively fluid to start the season, but this line has brought structure and spark. Josh Doan's emergence has given the Sabres another hard-working winger who can finish; Ryan McLeod's pace and defensive awareness have steadied things down the middle; and Alex Tuch remains the line's engine, combining power and skill to tilt the ice with consistency. In seven games together, Doan, McLoed, and Tuch have combined for 4.3 expected goals, just ahead of Utah's Schmaltz-Hayton-Keller trio in nearly 30 fewer minutes played together. They may not be the flashiest trio, but they're delivering results, and their underlying numbers suggest more offence is coming.

Ondrej Palat – Jack Hughes – Jesper Bratt (New Jersey Devils)

With Jack Hughes finally healthy, the Devils' top line looks devilishly good this year. Jesper Bratt's creativity is the perfect complement Hughes' vision and pace; and Ondrej Palat, now 34, seems to have rediscovered the form that made him a perfect support piece in Tampa Bay. With the fifth most xGoals For in the East so far, this line is showing they can burn teams consistently whenever they're on the ice together.
