DFS Thursday: Back to the Islanders; Kraken at Home; Swayman in Net, and More

Good morning, everyone! Well, I thought about playing a lineup last night but with the small slate decided to pass. Tonight though, much like Tuesday, is a fun slate with a couple of matchups that I'm looking forward to watching. Spoilers – We're staying up late tonight.

Slate Preview

New York Islanders

It’s a large slate with plenty of options available to us…you knew this was going to lead back to the Islanders, didn't you? I watched about half of their game last night against these very same Rangers and outside of getting the MSG trivia question right (Who won the Calder in the 2013-'14 season), this was a game where the Isles had the run of the play each time I turned over to look at what was going on. The Rangers started Spencer Martin last night, which means it's Jonathan Quick in net tonight who has been maybe the worst starter in the league within the past month. Now, granted the defense in front of him has not helped much as even last night it looked like a bag skating at times for the Rangers. The Islanders are one of the clubs that dumps the puck in the least, and still the Rangers had issues going back on the forecheck, with that I'll take the Isles tonight, but the question is where to attack. This could be a decent double defensemen spot, or even double center, or if you just wanted to full on stack the second line for top power play correlation and add in say Anders Lee, then that's fine. I can't say I'm all-in tonight but in looking over stats for the past half hour or so, I just keep coming back to attacking the Rangers tonight. I would have done this for whomever their opponent was, and of course it's another Isles night on a loaded slate. I think even Anthony Duclair as a one-off might be in play with eight goals in his last 10 games, or Emil Heineman for the volume that he has put up lately.

Seattle Kraken

We went from the Islanders to the Kraken. It's going to be a weird night, you guys. So, I watched part of the Leafs last game against the Sabres because I didn't want to watch the Hawks blow their three-goal lead (which they absolutely did), and two things stuck out – The Sabres are good, the Leafs…maybe on the other side of the coin. There's always too much clutter in front of the net and that's contributed to their 4.67 goals against in their last three and averaging close to 35 shots against in their last three games as well. For Seattle, it's a fully correlated top line going up against them on home ice that has my interest. I rarely play Seattle and to be honest, have only done so once this season following their OT loss to Colorado, but tonight I do really like them for my single-entry lineup. They're at a solid price as well to where you could pair them with say, Montreal's top line going up against the Avs on a road back-to-back, or even Detroit's second line hosting the Caps and a recently struggling Logan Thompson. We roll the dice with the Kraken on again, a loaded slate…what could go wrong?

Anaheim Ducks

The Ducks had a nice little six-game win streak snapped the other night against the Oilers but looked alright in that contest with a hattrick from Mikael Granlund. They'll be going up against a Vancouver club that has allowed 30 goals against in their last seven games…so yeah, we're going to be stacking Anaheim. It's not going to be correlated, that much I can say, but I don't mind some sort of three-man stack with say, Mikael Granlund, Beckett Sennecke, and Cutter Gauthier, who I am not leaving off this stack. There is also a slight chance that Troy Terry draws back into the lineup, so if he does play and you can sneak him into your stack, then you may be ahead of the curve.

Defense

For me, I think you don't have to go much higher than Matthew Schaefer at $6K to get great production from the blue line tonight. Now, that said, if you have $8,300 left over from your build, Cale Makar is in an excellent spot but that's going to be difficult to pay up for in any situation. You can get away with a ton of value on this slate from the blue line, Vladislav Gavrikov is going to play a bunch tonight and is sitting at $4,500 while Cam York at $4,100 is going to also play big minutes and at that price I don't mind throwing him into my lineup. Sam Malinski has been shooting the puck a good amount for the Avs at $4K and at that same price, Mike Matheson always makes for a solid addition to a DK lineup. He also somehow looked like he hadn't played an entire period of hockey during his intermission interview on TSN the other night. Not that it has anything to do with DK, but I guess it can't hurt? For a cheap d-man I'll go with Adam Pelech at $3,300. All aboard the Isles train.

Goalies

For me, my ceiling is Jeremy Swayman at $8,300 in a good matchup against the Flyers. Dave Rittich got the start for the Islanders last night, which means Ilya Sorokin in net tonight who is sub-$8K. He actually might see a sneaky amount of volume as well, so I don't mind the start for him in your lineup. Karel Vejmelka has had a couple good starts recently, but that would only be a play for me in multi-entry as going into a matchup in Carolina is a tougher task. Connor Hellebuyck is below $8K…and $7K…and honestly, I don't know if I would give him the nod in net for my lineup? I will say for an even cheaper option, Dustin Wolf's underlying numbers have been alright in the past month, just a tougher spot going up against the Wild. Even with all that said though, I think sneaking him into a lineup is in play for me if I absolutely need to save salary.

That's it for now, best of luck tonight everybody!
