Welcome back to Puck Picks! Each Thursday, I break down some of my favorite NHL bets, explain the reasoning behind them, and track performance transparently. The goal of this column isn't just to share picks, but to help you recognize why certain spots have value so you can identify them throughout the season. I'll be tracking every pick transparently in this column, logging units won and lost as the year progresses.

Last we went a pretty dismal 2-5, for a net of -3.04 units. Overall, that brings the season record to 63–54 for +10.13 units. There will be some ups and downs, but overall, we have a very respectable average bet return of 5.17%. Let's see if we can continue that tonight with a huge 15-game slate!

Jack Hughes Shots Ladder: 4+ shots (+100, 1.2u), 5+ (+220, 0.3u), 6+ (+475, 0.2u), 8+ (+1500, 0.05u)

It appears that Jack Hughes, the high-volume shooter, is back. He is averaging 7.2 shot attempts per game over his past five, with four of those games reaching seven or more attempts. He has also been significantly more aggressive at home, averaging 4.53 shots on goal per game compared to just three on the road. Adding to the appeal, his opponent Nashville tends to allow more shots on goal to centres compared to wingers and defensemen. This is set up as an excellent spot for Hughes to shoot often. The 8+ line is unlikely, but with 10 to 12 shot attempts within his realistic range, it is absolutely live at +1500.

Detroit Red Wings 30+ Team Shots (+155, 1u)

Detroit and Washington are trending in opposite directions. Over their last five games, Detroit ranks third in the league in even-strength shots-for per 60, while Washington ranks second-worst in shots against. This sets up as a strong opportunity for Detroit to continue generating heavy shot volume against a Washington team that has been struggling to suppress attempts.

Yegor Chinakhov 1+ Point (+144, 1u)

With Bryan Rust suspended, Chinakhov was practicing on the Penguins' top power play unit, which has been near league-best in conversion this season. Although he's not on the top line with Sidney Crosby, he is still solidified on Line 2 at even strength alongside Evgeni Malkin. He is also quietly riding a three-game point streak. Look for that to continue.

Frank Nazar Anytime Goal (+350, 0.5u)

Nazar has been held pointless in four games since returning from injury, but the underlying process remains strong. He continues to see top-six deployment and is averaging three individual scoring chances per game over that span, with an average of 0.37 xG per game. He simply has not converted yet, which is keeping his goal odds depressed, similar to his 4+ shots line. With this volume of chances, he will score sooner rather than later. I prefer the goal prop over the shot props here, especially against a Pittsburgh team that has been suppressing shots lately, but not necessarily high-danger scoring chances.

Mikhail Sergachev Blocks Ladder: 2+ blocks (-162, 1u), 3+ (+190, 0.4u), 4+ (+500, 0.2u)

We hit the full block ladder last week with Louis Crevier recording four blocks against the high-volume Carolina Hurricanes. This time, it is Utah visiting Carolina, and we are targeting Utah's top defenseman. Sergachev is playing around 25 minutes per night and has recorded 3+ blocks in five of his past eight games, including two four-block performances. In Utah's last matchup against Carolina, Sergachev reached three blocks while Carolina generated a massive 99 shot attempts in that game. The matchup is excellent again here, and the ladder offers strong upside.

Carolina Hurricanes 1+ Power Play Goal (-112, 1u)

Carolina quietly owns the top-ranked power play over the past month, averaging one power play goal per game in that span. They now face a Mammoth penalty kill that ranks fourth worst over the same period, also allowing one PPG against per game. Carolina tends to distribute power play time more evenly between units, which makes the team prop more appealing than stacking individual PPP plays.

Gabriel Vilardi 1+ Point (-110, 1.1u)

📢 advertisement:

Vilardi has spent the past couple of weeks on Winnipeg's second line, away from Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele, with Alex Iafallo filling that top-line role instead. Last game, the coaching staff reunited Vilardi with his elite linemates and he immediately produced, recording a goal and an assist. If he remains on the top line, this price will not stay this cheap for long.

Parlay: Team Shots Unders (+247, .7u)

New York Rangers under 28.5 team shots and Winnipeg Jets under 25.5 team shots

The Rangers face the Islanders again after being thoroughly controlled last night, posting just a 41% CF% and a 31% SF%. Over their last 10 games, the Rangers rank eighth-worst in shots-for. They will have a difficult time reaching 29 shots in this matchup. With Sorokin's saves line sitting at 22.5 on most books, this team shots line should be priced much closer to 25.5. That discrepancy presents clear value.

In Tampa Bay, we see a similarly favorable matchup for a shots under. The Lightning rank fifth-best in limiting shots against per 60 at even strength, while the Jets rank fifth worst in generating shots-for over the same span. That combination supports the under 25.5 for Winnipeg.

Good luck if you're tailing! As always, results will be updated in next Thursday's column for full transparency. Please gamble responsibly and never wager more than you're willing to lose.
