Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening! Welcome back to the Injury Ward. My name is Logan Clarkson and every Wednesday and Sunday I will be taking you through injury news and updates from around the NHL. I'll do my best to offer useful analysis and opinion as it relates to fantasy throughout. At the end of the article is the Quarantine section, where any players out due to illness will be listed. As always I’d like to thank every single one of you for reading. Now, on to the bad (and some good) news.

Injuries / Leaves

Mark Stone / Vegas Golden Knights – Stone (upper body) did not suit up Tuesday in Buffalo and remains day-to-day. Stone was hit by a gust of wind on Sunday in Buffalo and was immediately out of the game. He's missed one game so far, and his status for Wednesday's game against Detroit is still up in the air. Stone is making me look pretty stupid with taking him in the preseason for my disappointing player of the season. Don't get me wrong, he's still had his share of injuries, but when he's been in the lineup he's been pretty insane so far. He's hitting rates of 1.40 PTS/G which is a full 0.29 clear of his career high from 2020-21. He's shooting 23.1% so he will most likely slow down a bit, but I’m certainly running out of time for him to disappoint too terribly. Off to wash the egg on my face now.

Travis Konecny / Philadelphia Flyers – Konecny (upper body) is day to day, missing only his second game of the season on Monday in Toronto. Travis has been enjoying his second-best point pace of his career at 0.98 PTS/G, with Trevor Zegras of all people to thank for it. The line of Zegra, Dvorak and Konecny is a plus-seven with a slightly negative corsi. Konecny has shot 17.7% throughout the season, but I think this may be one of those situations that can hold season long even if it’s a bit of an aberration from his normal rates. Zegras' strong playmaking gives me hope for that, and it's been a long time since Konecny has had a linemate that can keep up with him on a daily basis.

John Gibson / Detroit Red Wings – Gibson (upper body) will not suit up against the Knights on Wednesday, Max Bultman of The Athletic reports. Gibson left after the first period of Detroit's game against Nashville on Monday afternoon. Gibson has been pretty good this season after a slow start. Going only 4-7-1 in his first 13 GP, with an 0.865 SV%, he stormed back in the next 15 games going 13-2-0 posting a 0.930 SV%. He's cooled a little bit in his most recent 11, but still holds a 6-3-1 with a 0.915 SV%, which is far from bad. Bad timing for the injury though, since he's been getting a lot more starts than Cam Talbot in the past few months including 16 of the last 19. Both of these guys are really just placeholders for Sebastian Cossa until he ages into his throne. Former Edmonton Oil King Cossa is having one of the most ridiculous seasons in the AHLthat I can remember for a goaltender, having a 24-4-3 record to go with his 0.927 SV% and 1.99 GAA…. okay dude.

Ryan O'Reilly / Nashville Predators – O’Reilly sustained an injury to his face in the third period of Tuesday’s game versus the Blue Jackets, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports. O'Reilly has been great this year in Nashville, and was one of the few players there who was actually producing a bit during their incontinent first half start to 2025-26. He's currently leading the Predators in scoring by nine points at age 35, but he's been part of the trade deadline rumor mill. He would be a great pick up for a contender at this point, while he's on one of the hottest streaks of his career to go along with the defensive acumen he's normally talked about for.

J.T. Miller / New York Rangers – Miller (upper-body) has had a forgetful season so far, and he's been his prickly self about it in post-game interviews. You know Miller is just not feeling it this year when you look at his PIM/GP over his career. He's at 0.31 this season, and hasn't fallen near that since 2016-17 in Vancouver when he put up 0.27. PIMs are not the deciding factor for a player's usefulness in lots of leagues, but when we take a gander over at his points, SH%, PPP, Hits, and blocks, it's all looking pretty anemic for the player he's shown he has the capabilities of being. Unlucky for his owners.

Aliaksei Protas / Washington Capitals – Protas will not play Tuesday versus the Mammoth for personal reasons, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports. Protas could have gone down last week and I would have been much happier, after he nearly sunk one of my weeks with a SHP in two straight games. Protas has been a prolific even strength scorer for the past two seasons, but has so far failed to live up to his 0.87 PTS/G of 2024-25. He has been hitting and shooting a bit more, so it's not all bad news but you want a player of his age to continue growing or at least holding the line. At 6'6 and 250 Lbs, he rarely misses more than a handful of games in a season, so he's at no disadvantage for time played so far and hopefully that continues.

Drew Doughty / Los Angeles Kings – Doughty (lower body) looks set to return tonight against the Islanders. Doughty's fantasy relevance has finally evaporated fully at this point, ceding his powerplay time to the rightful heir, Brandt Clarke. Drew has one single point in his last 17 games played, and may have given his last few drops of blood to Team Canada's silver medal run at the Milan Olympics. Ken Holland may be smart to give him one last shot on a contender and get a little package for him, but smart moves may be asking a little too much if it isn't dropped in his lap with a gold ribbon (Panarin).

Quarantine

Roope Hintz / DAL, Zach Werenski / CBJ, Mitch Marner / VGK, Shea Theodore / VGK
