There was some very good news for Carolina Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis as he was able to shed his non-contact jersey and participate in a normal morning skate for the first time this season. Jarvis is still making his way back from offseason shoulder surgery so his return isn't exactly imminent, but this is a big step in getting back into the lineup. When the team offers a firm update, we'll know more.
Perhaps Jarvis being at practice gave the team a bit of a spark because they absolutely hammered the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night by a 7-2 margin. Logan Stankoven posted a hat trick, managing a goal at even strength, on the power play, and on the penalty kill. That is his first career hat trick, but his first of many to come, surely.
Andrei Svechnikov scored twice, both on the power play, totaling four shots and a pair of hits in the win. Mark Jankowski and K'Andre Miller had the other tallies.
Defenceman Sean Walker had four assists, one on the PP, to go with a blocked shot. Goalie Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 18 of 20 shots for the win.
Jake DeBrusk scored both Canucks goals and they were both assisted by Elias Pettersson. The Canucks might be quite bad, but Pettersson now has two goals and six assists in five games. EP40 reclaiming his status as the guy he was three years ago would be easily the biggest development of the season for this team.
Kevin Lankinen was pulled after giving up six goals on 18 shots.

John Carlson scored twice, including once on the power play, to help lift the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 3-2 win at home against Minnesota. Carlson finished with nine (!) shots, three blocks, and a pair of hits. He now has four points in four games.
Anthony Cirelli scored his first goal of the season and Nikita Kucherov posted a pair of helpers.
Dennis Hildeby got the start in net for Tampa Bay and stopped 33 of 35 shots for his first win of the year.
Quinn Hughes added a goal and an assist to his season totals, managing four shots overall. Blake Coleman had the other tally for the Wild. Coleman has three points, 11 shots, and seven hits in four games with Minnesota. His multi-cat value is going to be stellar this year.
Jesper Wallstedt largely played well but took the loss, giving up three goals on 35 shots.

Carter Yakemchuk scored a power-play goal late in the third period, on the second PP unit, to push the Ottawa Senators to a 2-1 win at home against Philadelphia. Yakemchuk wound up with two shots and a hit in the game, but he skated just 14:45 so his fantasy value isn't very high, especially with Jake Sanderson (hopefully) not long from returning.
Nick Cousins scored the other goal for the Sens. Linus Ullmark was back in the lineup and got the start in goal, stopping 28 of 29 shots for his third win in as many starts. He has now allowed just three goals in 160 minutes of ice time across three starts.
Matvei Michkov scored the lone Flyers goal (PP). Trevor Zegras and Travis Konecny had the assists.
Joseph Woll took the loss for the Flyers, allowing two goals on 26 shots.
William Eklund left the game halfway through the first period with a lower-body injury and did not return.

Dallas', er, stars came alive on Thursday night as Mikko Rantanen posted a goal, three assists (one PP), two shots and a hit in the team's 4-0 shutout win over Buffalo. Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz both scored, too, with Hintz managing six shots and a block. Wyatt Johnston had three helpers (one PP) with a shot on goal in 16:40 of ice time.
Jake Oettinger registered his second shutout of the season, keeping all 25 pucks he faced out of the net.
Sabres goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was in net for all four goals against on 18 total shots.

In perhaps the most surprising result of the night, the Boston Bruins absolutely pasted the Utah Mammoth by a 6-1 margin. David Pastrnak brought down the hammer with two goals (both PP), two assists (one PP), four shots, and a pair of hits. Morgan Geekie had a goal and two assists, all on the power play, adding a hit along the way. Matthew Poitras tallied a goal and an assist while Casey Mittelstadt and Mason Lohrei also scored. Lohrei finished with two shots and three blocks, but just 15:43 of ice time.
Jeremy Swayman had a great night in goal, stopping 36 of 37 shots against for his third win of the season.
Jack McBain scored the lone Utah goal. Sebastian Cossa was the starting goalie and got pulled after giving up three goals on eight shots.

The Nashville Predators overcame a 2-0 deficit to peel off five straight goals, including three in the final 3:16 of the third period, to take a 5-2 win in Montreal. Adam Edstrom scored two empty-net goals, Ryan O'Reilly and Matthew Wood each scored power-play goals, and Alex Kerfoot registered his first goal of the year in the win.
Roman Josi totaled two assists (one PP), two shots, two blocks, and a hit in 27:49 of ice time.
Juuse Saros was very good for the Preds, stopping 32 of 34 shots against in the victory.
Alex Newhook and Nick Suzuki scored the goals for Montreal. Jacob Fowler was in net and allowed three goals on 18 shots in the loss.
*
Bo Horvat scored twice while Emil Heineman and Anthony Duclair potted a goal apiece as the New York Islanders took a 4-1 home win over the Chicago Blackhawks. Horvat totaled four shots and five hits, pushing his season up to 4 goals, 1 assist, 3 power-play points, 14 shots, 9 hits, and 2 blocks in four games. He has been an excellent multi-cat option through the first 10 days of the season.
Logan Stanley was paired with Matthew Schaefer, skated 23:51 in ice time, and managed two assists, three blocks, 10 PIMs, and a pair of hits.
Ilya Sorokin held the Blackhawks at bay by stopping 22 of 23 shots. Sorokin now has a .965 save percentage in three starts this season.
Frank Nazar scored the lone Blackhawks marker as Arvid Soderblom allowed three goals on 18 shots in the loss.

Macklin Celebrini was a game-time decision on Saturday as San Jose visited St. Louis, but did not end up dressing. It didn't really matter for the Sharks as they took a 3-2 overtime win against the Blues to improve to 3-1 on the season. Tyler Toffoli managed a goal and an assist, Collin Graf scored his first goal of the year, and Darnell Nurse's first goal as a Shark was the OT winner. Nurse finished with two shots, two blocks, and a hit in a nice balanced fantasy night.
Sharks goalie Alex Nedeljkovic held the Blues to just a pair of goals on 26 shots sent his way for the win.
Connor McMichael and Dillon Dube tallied the Blues' goals in the losing effort. Goaltender Joel Hofer allowed three goals on 27 shots.
Colorado went into Calgary and things went about as expected as the Avalanche piled on the goals in a 7-3 win. Colorado defencemen had a big hand in the offence:
- Cale Makar – two goals and an assist
- Devon Toews – two goals, three shots, two PIMs
- Brett Kulak – two assists, three blocks
- Noah Juulsen – one assist, two blocks
- Brent Burns – one assist, two shots, two blocks
Nathan MacKinnon did get his points with one goal and two assists while Jaden Schwartz also scored twice. Schwartz now has as many goals in four games with the Avs (3) as he did in his final 30 games with Seattle.
Scott Wedgewood was stellar in goal, holding Calgary to three goals on 29 shots.
Mikael Backlund, Adam Klapka, and Kevin Bahl all scored for Calgary. Devin Cooley got the start and gave up seven goals on 30 shots.

Vegas erased a 3-0 first-period deficit to tie the game 3-3 in the second period, and then took a 4-3 win in the shootout. Mark Stone, Jack Eichel, and Brett Howden all scored for the Golden Knights, and Eichel assisted on the Stone goal as well. Eichel now has 12 points in five games on the season, putting him in a tie for first in the league, and four points clear of any non-Edmonton skater.
Adin Hill got the nod in goal and held the Leafs to three goals on 24 shots, stopping all five shots in the shootout, for his second win of the year.
Jack Rosolvic, Easton Cowan, and Nick Paul scored for Toronto. Cowan was moved up to John Tavares' line at the start of the game with Gavin McKenna moving down to the third line.
For Vegas, Victor Olofsson was out with an injury and 2024 first-round pick Trevor Connelly took his spot on the top PP unit.
Sergei Bobrovsky was busy, and solid, keeping Vegas to three goals on 43 shots, but took the hard-luck loss in the shootout.
