We just saw the Connor Hellebucyk saga in Winnipeg finally coming to an end after the star goaltender was traded to New Jersey. Now all eyes are on former Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin, who is still looking to have his trade request fulfilled. Things have gotten awkward for Larkin in Detroit as he was stripped of the captaincy and greeted by a less-than-warm reception from Wings fans. As a result, he expanded his trade list to ten teams last week. Today we will be ranking those teams based on the likelihood of a deal coming to fruition, coupled with the possible fantasy value that he could hold if he landed with each franchise. Let's take a look at the Top 10 Dylan Larkin Trade Destinations.
10. Colorado Avalanche
Colorado is on Larkin’s trade list for obvious reasons, as they are one of the top contenders vying for the Stanley Cup. However, the fit isn't there whatsoever. With Nathan MacKinnon and Brock Nelson down the middle, as well as Nazem Kadri, who can play center in a top-six role, the Avalanche have no real need for Larkin’s services.
9. Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning make a bit more sense than Colorado as a landing spot for Larkin. While they have Brayden Point and Anthony Cirelli down the middle, Point has struggled, and Cirelli is more known for his defensive traits. For fantasy managers, the opportunity to have Larkin potentially play with Nikita Kucherov would be enticing.
8. Dallas Stars
Last season we saw Wyatt Johnston break out and become a star for Dallas. They also have Roope Hintz, who would be a first-line center on many teams. Any Larkin trade would likely have Hintz going the other way logistically. The Stars wouldn't be getting a massive upgrade over Hintz in Larkin. However, his fantasy value would skyrocket playing with the talent that Dallas have in their top-six.
7. Carolina Hurricanes
Any player would love to go to Carolina and play under Rod Brind’Amour for the defending Stanley Cup Champs. The Hurricanes seem to find a way to swing these types of deals mid-season. However, the emergence of Jackson Blake probably makes this move unnecessary for Carolina.
6. Vegas Golden Knights
While Vegas has depth down the middle, Larkin would be an upgrade over both Tomas Hertl and William Karlsson. The Golden Knights could use some added scoring power after losing Pavel Dorofeyev in the offseason. They could also opt to use Larkin on the wing where he would have a chance to play with Olympic teammate Jack Eichel.
5. New York Rangers
The Rangers early success has been surprising considering their recent roster turnover and the injury to Igor Shesterkin. They aren’t likely to be contenders, so it's unclear how serious they would be about this type of acquisition. However, adding Larkin is an upgrade over their current options down the middle, and he could form a duo with the red-hot Alexis Lafreniere. This destination would yield some of the most fantasy upside for Larkin owners.
4. Florida Panthers
After the injury to Aleksander Barkov, Florida should be looking to add another centreman. While their captain isn't out all season, the injury risk is still present. Not to mention Anton Lundell has struggled so far this season. Even with Barkov healthy, the Panthers could look to move on from Lundell in favor of Larkin.
3. Washington Capitals
Even with all the improvements we saw to the Capitals forward group this offseason, they still could use a centreman. They haven't had a true number one centreman since Nicklas Backstrom retired. Dylan Strome and Pierre-Luc Dubois have been solid options. However, Larkin would immediately be the Capitals best centre. Washington is looking to go on a deep playoff run, and mixing him into their core seems like a recipe for success.
2. Utah Mammoth
Utah aren't desperate for another centreman. They have Logan Cooley, Nick Schmaltz, and newly acquired Vincent Trocheck down the middle. However, one of those players could easily shift to the wing. Larkin would be an upgrade in comparison to any one of their current pivots. He would be the type of player that could get the Mammoth into the postseason.
1. Minnesota Wild
The Wild make the most sense of any team on Larkin’s trade list. However, they have been on there since the beginning, and no deal has come to fruition. Minnesota has a glaring hole down the middle, and Larkin would be a perfect fit. Getting to play big minutes on a line with Kirill Kaprizov, as well as playing with Olympic teammates Matthew Boldy and Quinn Hughes would make Larkin a must-buy in fantasy.
