DFS Tuesday: Dallas Showing Promise; St. Louis’ Road Matchup; Hronek’s Hot Streak, and More

Good day, all! The see saw NHL schedule allows us to play in some decent DFS tournaments again on DraftKings, let's dive in and see where we can attack this slate.

Slate Preview

Dallas Stars

I have a hunch that I'm going to be playing more and more Dallas if they keep trending in the right direction. Tonight, I'm leaning to play some Stars in my single-entry lineup.

I do wish that this Dallas club was at home for their matchup against the Capitals, but I'm still interested. The Stars are league best in Faceoff %, PK%, and have the lowest goals against. In the middle of last week, the Stars had a couple rough outings, but I was encouraged by their play from what I saw on Halloween night against the Jackets…spoilers for that rematch on Thursday.

I do wish that either of the top two lines was fully correlated, but I had to pick one line to stack, I'm gravitating more towards the top line, than the second. Wyatt Jonhston's offense is finally coming around after a slow start with six points in his last five games, and I'll look to roster him with Mikko Rantanen as Rantanen has been skating along both Dallas power play units. If you wanted to make this a full stack, I guess that's fine with Jamie Benn priced down at $2,500, but for me I'd likely lean a two-man stack of Johnston plus Rantanten, and then potentially add a Stars blue liner.

Montreal Canadiens

Trends are your friends! The Canadiens will take on the Jets tonight, and I couldn't look at today's slate without considering Montreal.

For the Jets, they have gone 1-7-2, in their last ten games, and if it weren't for the Canucks, the Jets have the worst goals against right now in the NHL. No surprise, it's the Montreal top line that I'd lean towards, even with the expensive price tag. Still, there could be an advantage of going with the Habs top line on this slate.

You didn't hear this from me, but Nick Suzuki practiced yesterday, and if he is in tonight, then that may fall under the radar for those not by their phone for the early 6 PM CST lineup lock. If Suzuki is not in the lineup, I still have interest but would just make this a Cole Caufield – Juraj Slafkovsky two-man stack and go about my build.

St. Louis Blues

The Blues offer a lot for DFS tonight and find themselves in a decent matchup on the road at MSG against the New York Rangers.

In three of the last four games, the Rangers have allowed at least five goals, which is part of what is drawing me to the Blues. What's also caught my eye is just what the Blues offer, and that's the ability to either stack a fully correlated topline or move down to a second line that could be a decent filler stack, or even a third line as a filler with Dylan Holloway.

If you're looking to stack the top line, there's some underlying data that suggests that Robert Thomas is close to breaking out but for me, I'll believe it when I see it. Rostering him in DFS is similar to Brayden Point last season, but this line is cheap enough with Jake Neighbours priced at $3,900 and Jimmy Snuggerud at $5,400 that a full stack could be used here for the St. Louis top trio.

Defense

Quinn Hughes is doing what Quinn Hughes does, with at least one point in six of his last seven games, and he would be my spend-up option at $6,700. Roman Josi priced at $6,200 is also fine, as the three-assist night he had last Thursday could point to more offense this week.

In the mid-tier pricing, Jackson LaCombe is skating near 30 minutes a night, I'll take that for $5,400. Filip Hronek has points in five straight games, so I'd look to roster him now at $4,900. What are the odds that price is in the low-to-mid fives once if/when he's dealt to a contender in the future? While the Jets have been in a slump, Neal Pionk at $4,500 is someone that I'd consider throwing onto my roster with four shots on goal per-game in his last three contests.

For my cheaper defensemen tonight, I'll start with Sean Walker at $3,700 coming off a two-goal performance against Winnipeg. Jake McCabe might be my go-to punt d-man tonight at $3,500 as he is skating heavy ice time right now for Toronto, while also being paired on the Maple Leafs top defensive pair. If you still need more salary relief, my old Blackhawks buddy Connor Murphy at $3K is in play for the block bonus but that's only looking at blocks, as he has just one point on the season.

Goalies

If you have the $8,200 to go up and spend for Jacob Fowler, I suppose that's fine. I'm looking more towards volume but if I'm chasing the win tonight, then Fowler would be a good choice.

Jake Oettinger at $7,800 is likely where my build will lead me, and if that's the case then that's perfectly fine! The volume should be there, and of course like that there is a great penalty kill in front of him.

My spend down option – and I can't believe that I'm going there – would be Tristan Jarry. My fantasy league has a made-up stat called a "Jarry" which is four goals on 24 shots, but I'll give him his flowers tonight. Edmonton is always in line for the victory and Jarry himself is coming off back-to-back shutouts. If you need a sub-$7,500 goaltender, he would be my choice.

That's it for now — best of luck tonight!
