Edmonton 3, Dallas 0 (series tied 1-1) One major question for the Oilers entering Game 2 was which version of Stuart Skinner would show up. After allowing five goals in Game 1, Skinner pitched a 24-save shutout to backstop the Oilers to a Game 2 victory and a split heading back to Edmonton for Game [...]
The panel picked three out of the four second-round series correctly, only missing on the Oilers defeating the Golden Knights. The panel’s lifetime record is now 150-93 when it comes to postseason predictions. Congratulations to Brennan DeSouza, Chad Simpson, Flip Livingstone, and Puneet Sharma, who correctly picked all four series in the second round! Here [...]
Dallas 2, Winnipeg 1, OT (Stars win series 4-2) Thomas Harley scored a power-play winner just 1:33 into overtime of Game 6 to send the Dallas Stars to the Western Conference Final and a rematch with the Edmonton Oilers. https://twitter.com/NHL/status/1923938134200324487 Our condolences go out to Mark Scheifele, who suited up for Game 6 even though [...]
Finding obituary articles about the Leafs – particularly the Core 4 – was not particularly difficult to do following their Game 5 no-show. Yet for everyone who was ready to stick a fork into the Leafs, they still had one more game to play. And in that game, they were able to receive a stay [...]
On Thursday, the top-seeded team in one conference was eliminated, while the top-seeded team in the other conference staved off elimination. Carolina 3, Washington 1 (Hurricanes win series 4-1) Andrei Svechnikov scored the game-winning goal with just 1:59 left in regulation to secure a spot for the Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final. https://twitter.com/NHL/status/1923191946534625330 Svechnikov’s [...]
After taking a break for the month of April, the Roto Rankings are back for May. Consider these rankings very preliminary rankings for next season before the usual flurry of offseason activity. The stat categories for the Roto Rankings are as follows: Goals, Assists, Special Teams Points, Shots on Goal, Hits, and Blocked Shots. For [...]
Let’s start with what was easily the more entertaining of the two games on Saturday. Just when you thought an ending to regulation couldn’t be as dramatic as Cole Perfetti in Game 7 of the first round, Reilly Smith came along in Game 3 and said “hold my beer.” Vegas 4, Edmonton 3 (Oilers lead [...]
Florida 5, Toronto 4 (Leafs lead series 2-1) Brad Marchand scored the game-winning goal at 15:27 of the first overtime to give the Panthers a 5-4 win over Toronto in Game 3. The puck appeared to float off Morgan Rielly past Joseph Woll. https://twitter.com/HockeyDaily365/status/1921031965353885826 Marchand has now scored goals in back-to-back games, and he is [...]
The panel was correct on six out of the eight playoff series in Round 1, only missing on perhaps the two toughest series of the first round. Florida and Dallas were the two teams that won despite being picked by the minority of writers, but they may have been picked by the majority with different [...]
One Game 7 delivered in terms of entertainment value. Let’s hope the other one does the same before we start Round 2. Dallas 4, Colorado 2 (Stars win series 4-3) When the Avalanche traded Mikko Rantanen, they wouldn’t have envisioned him facing them in their upcoming first-round series. Yet in a strange twist that [...]
