Following his departure from the Sabres, which is a kind way of saying they didn’t want him back, it seemed inevitable that Robin Lehner would find a job somewhere. On Tuesday night, he signed a one-year deal with the New York Islanders with a cap hit of $1.5-million. The Islanders appear set to go [...]
It was always a near-certainty that Joe Thornton would return to the Sharks on a similar deal as last year and he signed on of those Monday afternoon. It’s just a one-year deal with a $5-million cap hit. Thornton, now 39 years old, is coming off significant knee problems in each of the last two [...]
Edmonton has been rebuilding their winger depth ever since the trades of Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle. Whether it be promoting Drake Caggiula, signing Milan Lucic and Ty Rattie, or trading for Pontus Aberg. That winger restocking continued on Canada Day as they added Tobias Rieder for one year at a price of $2-million. [...]
Buffalo’s goaltender shopping began with the decision that they wouldn’t be bringing back Robin Lehner. It seems they want to eventually hand over the keys to the city to Linus Ullmark but also want a veteran goalie capable of providing him some buffer. The Sabres signed their buffer with Carter Hutton earning a three-year [...]
Undoubtedly, the biggest weakness for the Coyotes last year was their forward depth. Clayton Keller and Derek Stepan were pretty good but things got real thin after that. They’ve started to address by trading Max Domi for Alex Galchenyuk and continued in free agency by signing Michael Grabner to a three-year deal with an [...]
Looking back on this era of the Dallas Stars, the Benneguin era, they’ll largely be known for a lack of goaltending: since the lockout season, the Stars have the fifth-worst five-on-five save percentage, with only Carolina, Edmonton, Calgary, and the Islanders trailing them. Ben Bishop was supposed to help matters in 2017-18 but was [...]
Everything fell apart for Chicago last year once Corey Crawford was injured. His last game was just before the Christmas break, and at that time, the Blackhawks were on pace for 91-92 points. Not enough for the playoffs, but at least in the race. They finished with 76 points. In response to the poor [...]
Even when he was traded to their rival, it always seemed like Tomas Plekanec would eventually return to Montreal. He has, as the Canadiens announced a one-year deal with a $2.25-million AAV that is loaded with incentives. In what was a lost season for the Habs, it’s easy to overlook that their third line [...]
It wasn’t long ago that Detroit’s goaltending future seemed certain. Jimmy Howard had a few years left on his deal while Petr Mrazek was the heir apparent after stringing together a couple of solid seasons in a row. Things change quickly. With Mrazek gone and Howard having just one year left, Detroit needed to [...]
With Anton Khudobin moving on to Dallas, the Bruins were in need of filling their backup position and did not waste time by agreeing on a two-year deal with Jaroslav Halak carrying an AAV of $2.75-million. Halak has had an interesting career. There are times over the last decade, in Montreal and St. Louis mostly, where [...]
