The Hurricanes continued a busy off-season that’s included acquiring Scott Darling, Trevor van Riemsdyk, and Marcus Kruger, as well as signing Justin Williams, by locking up Jaccob Slavin for seven more years beyond the 2017-18 campaign with an average annual value of $5.3 million. The 23-year-old blue liner had 34 points in 82 games last [...]
Discussions have been ongoing for most of this week now as to what the Edmonton forward chart will look like this coming season. As discussed in a recent Ramblings, I don’t think there’s much certainty at all beyond locking Connor McDavid in as the top-line centre. Oilers analyst Bob Stauffer took a shot at projecting [...]
There are players every year who underperform for a myriad of reasons. It could be bad luck, injury problems, off-ice issues, age-related decline, a change in role, or any combination of these things. Regardless, when a player underperforms, they tend to come at a depressed average draft position the following fantasy season, and value ensues. [...]
It was announced on Friday that New York Rangers defenceman Kevin Klein would be retiring from the NHL after a 12-year career. Starting his career in Nashville before being traded to the Rangers, Klein had seemed to settle into a second/third-pair role with New York. His role – as that article indicates – had started [...]
Montreal avoided arbitration with Alex Galchenyuk by signing the restricted free agent to a three-year deal with an average annual value of $4.9 million. That’s a good value, however it seems to me not long ago they had another young player unfairly maligned sign a bridge deal and… well that didn’t exactly work out. One [...]
Montreal trading for Jonathan Drouin to bolster their top-six forwards a couple weeks ago, followed by the signing of Ales Hemsky earlier today, seemed to indicate that Alex Radulov would not be returning to the Habs. This indeed ended up being the case, as Radulov signed with the Dallas Stars: Stars sign Alexander Radulov to [...]
The Florida Panthers continued to re-tool their team, after seeing a few wingers leave over the last couple of weeks. Along with the the signing of Evgeni Dadonov, Florida announced the signing of another winger that would help fill the gaps in their roster: Vrbata in Florida: one year, $2.5 M base salary plus $1.25 [...]
This is a tumultuous off-season for the Florida Panthers’ roster. Reilly Smith and Jon Marchessault found new homes at the expansion draft, Jussi Jokinen was bought out, and Jaromir Jagr will be finding a new home unrestricted free agency. That leaves a lot of holes among their top-9 wingers, and one of those was filled [...]
Depth scoring has been something that Los Angeles has been missing for a couple of years now (probably longer). Marian Gaborik can’t stay healthy, Dustin Brown is a bottom-six player now, and no one else has really worked out. The Kings have started to address this issue by signing recent buyout Mike Cammalleri: Cammalleri to [...]
Another Pittsburgh Penguin skater leaves after winning two Stanley Cups in the last two seasons, after Trevor Daley went to Detroit. The Nashville Predators acquire their potential replacement for Mike Fisher by signing Nick Bonino: Bonino signs 4 year deal with Preds. $4.1 aav. Had other offers for more, but great fit in Nash, plus [...]
