Ramblings: Parting thoughts for the season, the Washington centres, St. Louis retires **** It’s interesting to see that the Caps have lined Evgeny Kuznetsov on the top line with Alex Ovechkin and TJ Oshie, moving Nicklas Backstrom down to the second line with Andre Burakovsky and Justin Williams. This could be seen as an issue [...]
Ramblings: Reviewing a mock draft, top line Pasta, Janmark injury, and more. **** A couple of nights ago I was fortunate to take part in a mock draft for theScore with other writers from around the industry, including Neil Parker from here on Dobber, Esten McLaren from theScore, Chris Meaney from FNTSY sports network, and [...]
Ramblings: Looking at some players left as draft after-thoughts, and more line combinations **** It seems to happen every year in fantasy. There is always a handful of players that, at the end of the season, fantasy owners look back and think, “how did I miss him?” Last year, guys like Loui Eriksson, Jake Muzzin, [...]
Ramblings: Training camp, exhibition lines, Trouba situation, Sobotka to the KHL **** UPDATE: Dobber's taking your fantasy hockey questions today - click here! **** Training camp is here, which means that the fantasy preseason is in its final throes. There is still information that can be gleaned even though most projections have been finalized at [...]
Ramblings: Some World Cup fantasy thoughts, Orlov’s signing, and Lupul’s Injury **** The semi-finals are set, and granted this is a small tournament, but it’s nonetheless important to take at least some things away for fantasy. I managed to watch every game save for the Czech Republic/USA, and here are some things that stood out [...]
Ramblings: Strome signs, Nichushkin Leaves, Defencemen in abundance, and more **** It’s inevitable that the restricted free agent dominoes start to fall, and one notable re-signing this week was Ryan Strome. The official deal comes in at two years with an average annual value of $2.5-million. The bridge deal. Classic. Strome’s contract is comparable to [...]
Ramblings: Buying a pair of Wings, Andersen, Reimer, Schwartz, and More **** The Colorado Avalanche will probably be one of the more interesting teams this year – new (better?) coach, talented roster, new stats hires – but perhaps one of the more compelling teams to watch this year is the Detroit Red Wings. Not compelling [...]
Ramblings: Keeping an eye on the rising average draft position of some players. **** Not long ago in a Ramblings here on Dobber, the focus was on discrepancies in average draft position across the major sites. The reason for this is simply for savvy fantasy owners to look for value opportunities by identifying players that [...]
Player rebounds, Cam Atkinson post-breakout, buying Marian Gaborik, and talking about Matt Dumba **** One thing that the expansion of stats has taught me over the last half-decade or so is that a fair amount of what some media analysts say with regards to player performance is not very useful. Things like “he didn’t want it bad enough,” [...]
World Cup starts (sort of), Huberdeau extension, Alex Killorn, and Loui Eriksson **** Tonight begins the World Cup of Hockey, or the exhibition games anyway. While the tournament itself is relatively meaningless besides dollars for both sides dashed with a bit of player pride, it’s nice to have hockey back in some form (North American [...]
