Looking at assist rates for Draisaitl, Plekanec, Jokinen, Vlasic, and other topics **** Watching a documentary on the James Bond franchise of movies and books a year or so ago, one thing that kind of stuck with me was something said by the daughter of famed Bond movie producer Albert Broccoli, Barbara Broccoli; to paraphrase, [...]
Some defencemen to keep an eye on for next year, power play points, and more **** For most of these Ramblings, I will be talking about defencemen. At this time, the following should be kept in mind: When ranking/projecting defencemen, I cannot stress enough just how much a league’s settings matter. This is especially true [...]
Using Arbitrage for Perry/Gallagher, Drafting James Neal, and Joe Thornton’s Decline **** An important part of drafting in any fantasy sport is not paying a premium for an asset. Drafting at a likely peak is the first step to low/no profitability. What can compound this problem is that paying a premium for an asset can [...]
New contracts for Hoffman, Mrazek, and Jarnkrok; thoughts on Toews, and Nash. **** The Ottawa Senators reached terms with goal-scoring winger Mike Hoffman, signing him on Wednesday to a four-year deal with an average annual value just shy of $5.2-million. Johansson Gets Three-Year Deal, Richards Retires, Thoughts on Wilson, Ehlers, Fabbri **** This isn’t really related to fantasy anymore, but yesterday, long-time forward Brad Richards retired from the NHL. Though he played 15 seasons, Richards is likely best known for his performance for the Tampa Bay Lightning, particularly in the playoffs, way back in 2004. [...]
Jamie Benn Earns a Huge Contract, Victor Rask/Jaden Schwartz signings, and More **** One big restricted free agent domino fell last night as the St. Louis Blues re-signed forward Jaden Schwartz to a five-year deal. The deal carries a cap hit of $5.35-million a year with a modified no-trade in the final two years (his [...]
Montreal’s Latest Moves, Production and Opportunity, a Duo of Millers **** This is only tangentially related to fantasy hockey, but I thought there was some interesting news to come out of the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night. This type of information isn’t always big news, but in this case I think it is: Pfeffer, who [...]
Anaheim has traded for Toronto goaltender Jonathan Bernier **** TRADE! Don’t get too excited, fantasy hockey fans. This one is of a relatively minor nature, as Jonathan Bernier was traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Anaheim Ducks for a conditional draft pick. This is how the money breaks down for the two teams: [...]
