This year, in NHL camps there are more Russians than usual - a total of 48 Russian players are training with the different NHL franchises. So far there have been several impressive showings.
The dynamic of Colorado's two-day training camp had a bigger impact on the goalies than any other position. Since timing and confidence is everything for a goaltender to start the new season, to be lacking in either of those areas will certainly lend a hand to struggling over the weekend. Even more important, however, is the negative effect of almost no one-on-one time with their new goalie coach, Kirk McLean.
I am currently in five fantasy hockey leagues, and yesterday kicked off five drafts in 12 days for me . The Ultimate Fantasy Pool is a head-to-head league, and all of the league’s members are readers of DobberHockey (a few of them are regular contributors on the hockey forum as well). The team (The Crosby Show), was audited by the HockeyPoolGeek crew back in August (you can read the in-depth analysis here).
I went in to the draft with a few goals, and in the end I think I accomplished what I set out to do.
The left-wing lock was a defensive strategy popularized by Scotty Bowman and the Detroit Red Wings in the 1990s. In essence, it was very simple. If the opposing team gained possession of the puck, the left-winger would drop back with the defensemen. It helped reshape the Red Wings into a team that could frustrate opponents defensively as well as bury them on the scoreboard.
Today, I wonder if we poolies face another form of left wing frustration - an apparent scarcity of quality left wingers to draft. Call it the leftwing lockout if you will. But whatever you call it, within a matter of weeks we will all have to draft our teams for the coming campaign, so let’s examine the potential problem.
The first three parts the Business of Fantasy Hockey series focused on engaging in a passive analysis of fantasy hockey leagues, the concept of market value, and how to properly value player intrinsically. Part IV, we're going to explain how you can actively manipulate the market price of players for trading and drafting (or any other way you can improve your club).
Five Goalies with Everything to Prove: The School of Block turned three years old on Saturday, so I thought a fitting way to celebrate was to repeat the very first session ever held. That first article did one thing - analyze situation. And since that is of utmost importance heading into the week of training camp, let’s look at five goalies with a ton of their fantasy future hanging in the balance of how they start.
There are numerous strategies that you can employ to win your hockey pool. One of them is to load up on a specific team. This strategy works better in rotisserie or points-only leagues, as having multiple players from the same team may hurt you during weeks with only a game or two in head-to-head leagues .
