Frozen Tools Forensics

Welcome to deadline day. This has been a wild week with a ton of action leading up to Friday. As I am writing this on Thursday I don’t know if there are any dominoes still falling, but there are probably a couple of players that did not move right? For a full list of fantasy [...]

This week on Frozen Tool Forensics we are going to take a quick detour from our recent focus on skaters and point production. Today we are looking at on goalies. In most standard leagues we use bunch of goalie stats that goalies don”t necessarily have a lot of control over. Much of the value comes [...]

This week on Frozen Tool Forensics we are going to be focusing on even strength production, and more specifically the production of individual lines. While it usually takes power-play deployment to put up superstar numbers, solid even-strength production creates the baseline. Players with strong even strength production are valuable as they are putting up production [...]

Last week we kicked off the two-part look back miniseries by reviewing those players who have beaten their early season expectations. This week we will tackle those who have disappointed us and it is certainly an interesting list. To gather the data, I pulled Dobber’s point pace projections from the beginning of the year (available [...]

Now that we are officially at the All-Star Break, the unofficial (and not exactly) halfway point of the season, I wanted to take a moment to look back over the first half and highlight some of the performances we have seen to date. Today we are going for a deep dive and looking at player production through a slightly different lens. As any fantasy manager can attest there is quite a bit of variation from game to game, and even from week to week. Players can go from matchup defining games to cardio sessions with negligible fantasy impact. [...]

We are back at it this week with a Frozen Tool Forensic’s classic. Given the holidays and some other recent events I have been a bit out of the loop the last few weeks so decided to get back into the swing of things by looking at player deployment and trying to get an idea [...]

In Part 2 of our little power-play suite, we are going to move on from defensemen specifically to production in general. Last week was devoted to opportunity, using things like percent of a team’s total power-play, but this week we are focusing on point production and will see who is really taking advantage of their [...]

Every season we see an unexpected defenseman or two dramatically increase their fantasy stock over the course of the season. Sometimes it is their peripheral contributions or higher than expected five on five scoring, but usually it is because they have also ascended to the top power-play for their respective teams. For this week we [...]
