I know what you’re thinking: “did he fire six shots or only five?”  Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I’ve kinda lost track myself.  But this being an Easton Synergy SE16, the most powerful hockey stick in the world, and would explode in my hands if I were to cross-check you in the head, you’ve got to ask yourself one question:  “Do I feel lucky?”  Well do ya, punk?

Edmonton's new coach

The playoffs have truly started as many playoff poolies are beginning to see that it’s not necessarily the “big named” favorites that are the top-producers during the playoffs but the quiet achievers that can also get the job done. Anyhoo, as the playoffs begin for 16 teams, the other 14 teams will be looking towards next season. My hometown Oilers have already begun that journey by replacing long-time bench boss Craig MacTavish following a disappointing end to this season.

No Time for the Cynical

Beast chart

It's a routine of mine to fall out of bed every morning, stumble into the kitchen like a drugged zombie and swipe an over-sized muffin from the kitchen cupboard. Sometimes I snag blueberry, sometimes banana nut and sometimes I forget to close the plastic lid correctly the day before and they all end up stale. That invokes a nasty rage that can only be suppressed with…well, more sleep...and lots of Cocoa Puffs cereal.

Fantasy Hockey Prospects

Tavares

I had prime seats to see the London Knights host the Windsor Spitfires Friday – center ice, luxury box. Needless to say, it was a beauty – and afterwards, I had the pleasure of talking prospects with an NHL scout – he looked through the DobberHockey Fantasy Prospects List and with the understanding that the list measures a player’s potential in terms of points only, he was able to give me quite a bit of insight.

The opinions of a scout need to be taken with a grain of salt. While scouts are certainly more qualified to give the opinion, it also needs to be understood that if scouts were perfect then every player ever drafted would be in the NHL and the annual Draft would be reduced to three rounds.

(Andover's Chris Kreider, a darkhorse top ten pick)

The 2009 NHL Entry Draft lottery took place on Tuesday night. While every team in the top five had a chance to win the rights to the first pick, the New York Islanders retained the right to draft John Tavares. However, the results are still causing a shake-up in the draft board as the season comes to a close.
