As keeper league hockey pools increase in number each year, fantasy junkies become more active in the off-season as they prepare their team for the coming year. Rebuild? Retool? Tweak? Whatever your intentions, it helps to get all the information you can about your players.

Throughout the off-season, FPL will look at a pair of teams each week and give you the fantasy lowdown. Bucking the trend of past years, we will review alphabetically – in reverse. Just to be different.

Penguins celebrate

In an analysis of all the teams and how they fared offensively last season, the changes they have made this summer, as well as the predictions made in the DobberHockey Pool Guide 2007-08 , I have put together a team-by-team projection of their goals for in the coming season.

As you can probably imagine, the Penguins wind up on top of the scoring heap, the Chicago Blackhawks are most improved team (offensively) and the Buffalo Sabres will take the biggest goal-scoring freefall.

The Center of Attention

 Kovalchuk

The Atlanta Thrashers, Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild have very lucrative jobs up for grabs – both in reality as well as in fantasy hockey. The job available? No.1 center. It’s anyone’s guess who will line up at center ice when the puck drops to start the season for those teams, but if you managed to secure him late in your draft…hoping…then you will likely hit the jackpot.
