The Journey

Undrafted college free agents are usually better in theory than they are in practice. For every Martin St. Louis, Torey Krug and Brian Rafalski there are endless Matt Gilroy’s and Matt O’Connor’s. But they are low-risk, high-reward moves since all they cost in money. Here are three potential free agent signings that we’ll be hearing [...]

It’s the time of year where junior and college seasons are winding down, leading to a number of prospects inking their first professional contracts. Here are three such recently-signed players.   Gabe Vilardi – LAK A projected top-five pick heading in the 2017 draft, Gabriel Vilardi unexpectedly fell into the laps of the LA Kings [...]

Another trade deadline has come and gone with a number of big name, established vets getting moved for futures. Here are three such prospects that changed addresses.   Danny O’Regan - BUF The whole gang’s getting back together! GM Eichel Botterill finally ended the Evander Kane era in Buffalo by dealing him to San Jose [...]

As is usually the case with Dobber’s prospect defensemen rankings there was a whole lot of movement from January. But there were a couple players that experienced a notable jump.   Ian Mitchell – CHI, up to 45 from 102 This month’s biggest riser is Ian Mitchell of the Chicago Blackhawks. For me, there is nothing more satisfying than picking up a free agent that makes other GM’s ask “Who?” then seeing that guy become a valuable fantasy commodity. There will always be hits and misses, lord knows I’ve had my fair share of both. Here are three guys currently playing in Finland that, two or [...]

The Olympics are less than a week away and while there are no NHL players competing this year, that doesn't mean there aren't players worth watching. In addition to a stacked Olympic Athletes of Russia team, a number of prospects will be taking centre stage.   Ryan Donato - BOS Drafted by the Boston Bruins [...]

As we hit the all-star break, it’s a good time to have a hard look at your squad and determine what changes you need to make to your squad to help make that final push. Here are a few new faces on the scene that could provide depth help for that second half stretch.   [...]

Adam Fox, CAL – Up to 47 from 66 Excuse me while I gush. Making his debut on the top-50 list is one of my favourites, and he should be one of yours too, Calgary prospect Adam Fox. In his draft season of 2015-16, Fox played for the US National U18 team where he not [...]

Mason Appleton, WPG - up from 502 to 169 There’s a very good reason why the Winnipeg Jets prospect is this month’s biggest riser. Picked in the sixth round in 2015 by the Jets, Appleton proceeded to ply his trade with the Michigan State Spartans for two years. For both of his seasons in East [...]
