The Wild West

I wasn’t a fan of what the Kraken did during the expansion draft in building their original roster, but they have made plenty of good moves since then. They have had good entry drafts, have made some decent free agency signings and made some good trades. They are heading in the right direction. GM and [...]

The Sharks made a big step towards their rebuild by trading Brent Burns to Carolina for Steven Lorentz, Eetu Makiniemi, and a conditional 3rd round pick in 2023. It will be interesting what they do with Logan Couture, Timo Meier, Tomas Hertl and Erik Karlsson going forward. GM and Coach Mike Grier is the new [...]

The Predators re-signed Filip Forsberg to an eight-year $8.5 million AAV contract which should come as a huge relief to their fanbase. Nashville has been able to keep its core intact for this upcoming season. GM and Coach David Poile will be entering his 16th season as the GM in Nashville after being GM in [...]

With the unrestricted free agent deadline coming up on July 13th, I thought I would take a break from the looks at each western organisation and focus on the notable UFAs from each team in the West. Filip Forsberg was one of the bigger UFAs but he came to an agreement with Nashville on an [...]

The Avalanche won their third Stanley Cup and their first since 2000-2001, beating Tampa Bay four games to two in the Finals. Cale Makar (23) was the Norris and Conn Smythe Trophy winner which bodes well for Colorado to be back in contention next season. GM and Coach Joe Sakic has been GM since just [...]

The Minnesota Wild had their best-ever regular season with 113 points on 53 wins in 2021-22. It wasn’t enough as they lost in the first round for the sixth time in the last six times they’ve been in the playoffs. GM and Coach Bill Guerin was named GM of the Wild in August of 2019 [...]

Up next is the Los Angeles Kings who surprised some people (including myself) and made the playoffs last season. I thought they were two or three years out from where they were last summer, but they added Phillip Danault, Victor Arvidsson and Alex Edler before the season which accelerated the timeline a little. GM and [...]

Next on our list are the Edmonton Oilers who were just recently knocked out of the Semi-Finals by the Colorado Avalanche 4-0. The Oilers ended up with 49 wins in 2021-22 and 104 points, which was their most points in the regular season since 1986-87 when they won the Stanley Cup. GM and Coach Ken [...]

Calgary had a great regular season and they made it to the second round of the playoffs before losing in five games to Edmonton. Although the loss to Edmonton was a blow, the team took a significant step forward in 2021-22. From the outside, it looks like there is a two-year window for this current [...]

Dallas had a good season after missing the playoffs in 2020-21, by winning 46 games in 2021-22 and finishing with 98 points. They lost in the first round to the Calgary Flames in a hard-fought seven games, with the deciding game going to overtime. They will be challenged to repeat that next season as they [...]
