The Wild West

Let’s talk streamers. Every week I post two-ish streamers that I think are going to give you a chance to earn a few extra points. I want to take a moment during this rare downtime in the hockey fantasy world to share a bit about what I mean by recommending a streamer and take [...]

Last week we took a look at who in the West is gaining time both at all strengths and specifically on the power play. When players are adding time it is more likely they will be putting more stats on the board because they are increasing their opportunities to do so. This week we [...]

A couple of weeks ago we started to talk about players who were seeing changes in their total time on ice. I mentioned there would be more to come, and here is the next installment. What we are trying to capture is players who are seeing their deployment change so we can try and [...]

Welcome back to another week of the Wild West. Count this as another reminder to go a pick up the  Midseason Guide due out soon. My portion takes a look at all of the teams and identifies some trends and historical production that should be helpful when analyzing players for the second half of [...]

The Wild West is back after a short hiatus to welcome my brand new baby boy to the family. In keeping with the column title, it has certainly been a wild two weeks, but I am glad to be back.   To jump back in this week I ran some numbers to try to [...]

In part two of our mini-series I wanted to take a look at multi-cat defensemen. Again, like with forwards, I started with guys that are typically valued very highly in those formats. We are of course talking about guys like Brent Burns, Dustin Byfuglien, Shea Weber etc. It turns out those three guys don’t [...]

This week I spent some time poking around the old Wild West Columns to see what types of things kept coming up. One theme that emerged was depth, particularly in leagues that count more categories (things like hits and blocks). The fabled multi-category stud. I struggled a bit with the definition of who that [...]

So this week I wanted to start with a slight deviation. I had something happen last week in one of my leagues that I am sure everyone who plays head-to-head category leagues is familiar with: I had a great week and got killed. This is a 12-team Yahoo League that uses 11 categories, and [...]
