Top 300 Keeper League Skaters – April, 2018

Dobber

2018-04-04

Here are the Top 300 players to own in your points-only keeper league – April edition.

April, May and June are my "fun months". These are when I stop including this season's immediate payback, and look ahead to next year and onward. But I do it without crunching the numbers. My Fantasy Guide is out on August 1 and so the numbers, free agency, depth charts all get factored into July and August rankings. Until then, I go through player by player and focus more on their 3YP, upside, and then ballpark next season's points. Fun, right?

These are for points-only leagues, I look no further than three years ahead, players within +/- 5.0 rating points of each other should be considered equal and at that point become a matter of personal bias and/or team needs.

There’s a mistake, you have Karlsson with the Sens still…

    • Matt Vandenbrand 2018-04-04 at 18:18

      Ugh. Right in the feels.

    • Joe 2018-04-11 at 14:46

He likes spending his summers in Ottawa however it is his final one.

  2. Matthew 2018-04-04 at 16:37

Curious why you dropped Kyle Connor?

    • Dobber 2018-04-04 at 17:20

He didn’t drop, others just moved ahead of him. But I should have adjusted him as well, and moved him higher. I’ll have it fixed next month. Should be about 20 higher.

Ok sounds good, love the site by the way. Cheers to positive health.

Can’t say that i value Marchessault as a top 30 keeper yet. I’ve slowly started believing in the VGK train, but he’s closer to 40 than 20 on my lists.

Doughty outside the top 100? How?

    • Dobber 2018-04-06 at 10:00

Keep in mind – positions don’t matter. So ask yourself how many points will he get next year, how many is his upside, and how many will he average over his three best seasons going forward?

  5. Joe 2018-04-11 at 12:47

Okay, so my first posting. I have used your info a few times however just some comments.

Malkin gets no love from anyone and you are no different. Having some of the guys you have ahead of him is an insult to this superstar.

Having Marchessault ahead of Kuznetsov, Rantanen and Mathews is a serious mistake. Lets forget the first 2 years of MAR and KUZ (only because it is not a fair comparison) and KUZ has outperformed him and he is 2 years younger.

Dubois so far down at 19 years of age. This kid is going to be a rock star in the NHL. I expected better from you.

    • Dobber 2018-04-11 at 13:20

After owning Malkin since he was 18, I finally traded him last summer. One of my favorite players, but three out of four years he gets hurt. In my leagues, when he gets 95 points he’s a hero. But if he plays 67 games and gets 70 points it really cripples me because I count on him for more. This is a points-only ranking, so 67-game Band-Aid Boys make this 95-point superstar into just your run-of-the-mill 70-point guy.
And that’s all he is. A 70-point player with upside when he decides to honor us with some decent health.

Dubois – If you read DobberHockey and buy the Fantasy Prospects Report, then I expect better from you. He is a two-way power threat, but in points-only leagues his ceiling is limited.

I love Marchessault. Real Deal. We’ll touch base in two years and you can tell me how right I am ;)

I’m starting to get the feeling that you didn’t know this was a points-only ranking?

      • Dobber 2018-04-11 at 13:24

Irony is that this time last year I was criticized for overrating Dubois. Fantasy Hockey is a fickle game…

        • Joe 2018-04-11 at 14:47

I drafted him based on your rating. I still think he will be a point per game player.

          • Dobber 2018-04-11 at 15:07

To me that’s his absolute ceiling, and he needs linemates (Panarin and Atkinson will do for sure!) to get there. Without linemates and luck, I figure a 65-70 guy. Still great! Needs to be more proven to move up these charts, as you know I don’t move guys up or down super fast.

      • Joe 2018-04-11 at 14:17

I am in a points only league and like you drafted him his first year. He is consistently a point per game player, yes he does get hurt. I don’t look for him to be a 95 point guy, I expect 70 to 75, when he get more I win by 52 points.

No doubt we can chat about your other picks in 3 years, however a 27 year old small player will get his share of injuries. I believe that the 3 guys I gave you for head to head with MAR. will outscore him.

PS: I do buy the guides from the site and use them for information.

      • Joe 2018-04-11 at 14:54

I do agree with 90% of your rankings, just some of them I question why. I do check your rankings every month so thanks for putting it out there, it is appreciated.
